GSP fading spots
GSP fading spots
I checked my GSP when i entered my house like i always do and he was hovering just above the substrate and he had no spots, just a pale green colour on top. I watched him for a few seconds until he moved his eye and noticed me and his spots just appeared instantly.
I've not read this anywhere and i'm just wondering what he was doing, is that what they do when they sleep? I've only had him a week so all this behavior is new to me.

Mines colours fade when they sleep. If he is healthy otherwise, then I would think it is normal.

When a fish is sleeping it is easier prey. It will try to "fade out", to match it's surroundings.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Re: GSP fading spots
Yeah I've noticed my GSP's becoming paler when they sleep. They also seem to change their colours depending on their mood.
My Abei's also change their colours quite dramatically sometimes. You would not even think they were the same fish if you could see how different they can become at times.
I suppose all puffers can change to an extent.

Usually when they see you they should perk right up

I believe you have small mud puddles mixed up with acres of rice paddies.
Re: GSP fading spots
Yea his eye stalk thing was moving about and when it spotted me he rose up and his spots returned.

Re: GSP fading spots
I'm glad I came to this sit or I would have never known about the fading spots when they sleep. I saw one of mine asleep for the first time about three weeks ago and if I did'nt read that here I would have freeked out! So thanks.

Re: GSP fading spots
My GSP does this too!
Scared the heck out of me the first time I saw him under his tree... I thought he was upside down cuz his spots were completely gone on top!
Then he saw me and came out... poof, he spots came on like a magic trick.
Amazing creatures.

Re: GSP fading spots
Jillybean turns to nearly an even gray color when asleep these days, just a TINY bit darker where her black areas are. Matches the shade of the sand with the lights out nearly perfectly.
