how to strengthen cabinet to hold 4ft tank?

Post by lesleyanndunn »

we have fixed the 4ft tank that we cracked

had a water test overnight, and no leaks!

we want to put the tank on top of a pine cabinet (sideboard)

the tank fits on top exactly

but we want to strengthen the cabinet to safely take the tank full of water.

any suggestions? thanks

have 3 fat people sit on it. If it holds, you don't need to strengthen it.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

Are those pull outs working or are they the nailed on. If they pull out it might be hard to brace it if the dont then a 2x4 subframe inside of it should work. It might even be sterdy enough not to have to reinforce it. Does it wobble or something?

If there's room for it you could put some 2x4's from top to bottom in between the drawers. That's if you dont mind haveing screws on the top of the cabinet. But it would help support the weight.

I think it should be ok.. sounds very sturdy but if your just looking to be extra careful then it shouldnt take much to calm your nerves.

how many gallons is the tank? 1 gallon = 10 lbs (aprox) you could test it that way

i dont know

it has a sloped front - so its 48" long, 12" wide at top end, and 15" at bottom and 19" high

you are probably looking at a 40 gal +- a bit because of the sloped front.

so if your chest could support 500 lbs you'll be in great shape :)
