It needs water to flow through it as it circulates in the tank; I use it in two places in my sump, as the water enters the flooded tray through the mechanical filtration, and as it slow-pours through the bottom of the tray.

Well I was doing My routine vacuum in my clouded puffer tank and I think I found out what's making it cloudy. The dead lace rock I bought had lots of orange a white mineral deposits on it. Thinking it looked cool I bought those pieces. Well the guy at store just said to give a good rinse. I was vacuuming and noticed if coming of the rock as I vacuumed. Its loose and slimy like algae too. It was rock hard dry and now it's soft. I think Ill try removing the rocks and scrubbing as much as I can off. GRRR any Ideas Should I keep that stuff or it has no benefit?

If you suspect the slimy rock of contributing to your cloudiness, remove it to a bucket or QT tank until you can read the effect of its removal on the tank with an issue. If the tank clears, then the rock was likely an issue and that would be enough to ban it for me as well as it is PP. I don't want unknown slimy things doing something negative to my water. So, NIMFT either.

The LFS is trying to make sales, that is what they do and how they earn their living. You are responsible for opening your wallet or not. Relying on a salesperson for good or the best advice is a contradiction in terms to me. If they gave you poor or bad info, you can complain to the owner or manager, but it is still unlikely to alter the way they operate.
