Quick gsp question

My 2 gsp are in there 45g home and they've been swimming up and down the one far right corner for a few days now. And the also seem to be picky about what they eat, lol. It's been about 2 days since they last ate and wont accept blood worms or mysis shrimp or even raw whole shrimp. I did give them some fresh clam about 1wk and a half ago. Any ideas or tips would be greatfully appreciated

I've tried snails and atm they don't care for them. What kind of snails are best for them? They are in brackish atm, i think the water is at 1.012.

mines eating ramshorn and pond snails.

hes on them as soon as they hit the water.

if you've just put them in a new tank, maybe the move and settling in has affected their appetite abit?

i know from reading on here, that they can be moody wee blighters, and stress us out over them not eating! and that they can for a while not eating.

You could try some mussels. I used to buy the tiny mussels at the LFS, but then I found these bigger ones at the grocery store and my puffers are going crazy over them, especially my GSP's, which can be a bit picky at times. Obviously because the mussels are so large, I cut them in half or quarters so they are easier for the puffers to eat.

When two of my GSPs would not eat anything else..another member suggested live worms..

I got some live panfish trout worms from walmart

and boy..they ate those quick!!

I was thinking about giving them a clam today and see if they eat it. It still has its shell, i cracked them open and rinsed them then froze em. The last time I gave them that they really liked it alot, so ill give it a try.

I just gave my two gsp mussels today They loved it. I get them from work because if there cracked we cant serve them, so tasty treats

My gsp swims up and down the tank wall and i've had him for over a year...as for food he's extremely picky, most of the times he wont touch anything but clams..

After reading a lot about their difference/ behavior I am 150% convinced they need saltwater sooner than most think. All of ppl say none have died no matter what age in saltwater. They were 10x brighter(no stache ever again too!). And they stopped window surfing and were alway scoping the rock out all day for lil crustaceans. To me it just makes sense. Soo... many snails in live rock it's ridiculous. I am also convinced that from sg 1.014 they get kinda crazy(window pacing hard). 1.020 they get better but ppl were saying 1.024 and they were best they'd ever been so I hoping thats what happen with mine too. That just the general consensus I get from reading posts from ppl who are really knowledgeable. I really wanna know for sure too but I think they're born BW and some may get lost and go find FW and most others straight to salt. They probably spend some time grazing and fattening up but id be willing to bet 90% eventually always eventually find the ocean and never go back except to mate. I read when the GSP is caught its like DP size in BW and is really common. Like they just scoop em like tad poles in a bucket. Larger ones are caught alone for the BIG price TAG. I think somebody who has raised them from FW to BW to SW needs to make a chronological movie with updates thru to see the differences in behavior and then some theories may be proven. I may try that after mine are full marine since they're at 1.016. Put it on youtube too cuz there is nothing but bad comments on how to raise GSP its sad.

I remember reading on here.. or a link from this site (someone post that thread if they can find it) about the FSU I beleive actually breeding GSP's and they stated that their sperm (or egg) is only viable in saltwater.... man i wish i could find that thread it was really enteresting to read.

I feel real lucky my to GSP's eat any thing I throw in with them it dosent matter what the two are just waiting for foor I guess it's just there thing.

try Live blood worms from the LFS they will never refuse these.

It appears from breeding research that GSP can only breed with any significant viability in full marine conditions. So they are born in full marine, and frequent full marine conditions regularly in their adult life. We can only guess that they live primarily at river mouths, venturing upriver to fresh waters when they need to find prey, while preferring the high brackish-marine conditions at the mouths of the bays (which serve as a sort of home base) and venturing out far enough into the bays for their TINY fry to be able to feast on planktons, when they wish to spawn.

My two GSP's are a bit picky too. They even turn their nose up at earthworms, which are loved by most of my other puffers. They seem mostly interested in mussels, absolutely love them. I bought some live ones a while back, and they went mental on them. Only problem with getting the live ones is that you have to buy a big bag of them, and I don't have the space to store them and they get rank very quickly.
