DIY Sump/Refug

Post by JaxPuffer »

I am currently in the motions of putting together a sump/refug. This is what I have so far.

20 gallon long
24x18 sheet (plus some pieces)of acrylic for baffles/dividers
Return pump (not sure of model label is gone local reefer hand me down)
Weir Box Overflow http://www.melevsreef.com/acrylics/overflow.html the idea off that link.
Making a PVC overflow also to see which I like best http://www.3reef.com/forums/i-made/nice ... 29396.html (like the one posted in that link by Covey.
Coral life 220 super skimmer
1 tube Aquarium Silicone Caulk

So far the total cost for everything is 70 bucks

Going to put fine sand, rubble, and macroalgae in the refug. With some seeding from the local reef shop.

The idea here is a little extra filtration, a place to put skimmer, housing for some copepods, and the heater in order to "clean" the tank up some.

I would prefer the weir box as it is more aesthetically pleasing. I have seen where people have also ran the air line from the top of the weir to their power heads to make sure siphon is not broke.

If I have not posted this in the correct spot please feel free to move it where it belongs. I will be attempting some pics as I go along to help others if they decide to try.

So far I think I am going to go with the sump/refug design on the following link. I am a little worried about the micro bubbles because I have not been able to get them under control yet with the skimmer on the tank.

The links listed above have the pics of what I plan on doing and as far as the drawings.... you don't want to see my drawings. I will post pics tomorrow evening on the progress though.
