Tank Idea/Need Help

Ok, after thinking about it I have decided that upgrading my 24 fowlr tank to a 40 gallon breeder tank would be a good idea because it would give my current fish (GSP/Eric Cartman) more room.

I was also wanting to put in some tank mates and I was thinking that putting in 2 Ceylon Puffers and/or 3 wolf eel bleinnies would be good in my book.

I have looked up ways to create wet - dry filters at home without help and hear they are cheaper.

But my questions for all of you is...

Would these animals be able to live together in a tank this size?

Do you know any aqaurium parts (like filters, protien skimmers, ect) that would be effective yet I could buy and/or create on the cheap?

Well, seeing as GSPs require 30gal each and Ceylons require 40gal each then no, a 40gal won't work.

Ok, that would be kind of my goal. I think it's time to upgrade my 24 gallon tank anyway (1 GSP)... But why I said 40 gallon breeder tank is that they have more width than most tanks of a simmiar size.

Would Wolf Eel Blennies or some type of small eel work as tank mates?

GSPs are narcissists...they will not tolerate tank mates, they barely tolerate their own species....maybe if the GSP is a juvenile...but even then..a favorite thing to do is eat fins.

And they definitely will not tolerate a tankmate in a 40 gal....maybe if you had like a 200 gall

Mine is an adult (apparently...), and I thought they only nipped fins off of fish out of territorial or exploration issues...

That seems a bit absurd... I am not denying what you are saying I just find it to be extremely high for a fish of that size...

I figured that was the case... But I was just thinking in terms of size...

But yeah is there anything that could go in the same tank as my puffer?

Also I didn't get a response about my DIY filteration construction request.

You'll need to be patient and wait for people who have knowledge on those subjects. You can't demand answers from those who don't know

In a 40gal tank though I'd bet the list of possible tank mates would be very small and possibly even 0.

hHave you considered using your existing tank as a sump for the 40? With live rock and a skimmer it would be a big plus.

Some people have has success with Clown fish...but still 40 gallon is probably two small..sorry, I know you want more action in the tank!

Possibly, a couple of small damselfish, if there is enough LR for them to hide out in. But you may find out you like your puffer as a singleton & he will be entertaining enough.

Some people have has success with clownfish...but still 40 gallon is probably two small..sorry, I know you want more action in the tank!

I wouldn't mind having Marron Clownfishes in there. (If I am correct they are one of the largest and most agressive clownfishes for sale, which is a good thing in this case)

Yes, I understand that too... But I have been trying to think of fishes that are agressive and robust enough to withstand the puffers.

I know GSP puffers are not community fishes by a landside but I figure there must be somthing that would be able to go and live with it...

Maroons are the largest & meanest of all clowns. We have one that is 6-7" at my LFS. i had a 2" one with my adult GSPs & in 2 days, it had chewed their tail's down to nubs.

What if they were of both the same size or the clownfish was larger?
