Green and red spots on my dry coral

Post by apriljrobinson »

I recently upgraded my GSPs tank and decided to add some decorative dry coral I picked up in the Philippines. Before putting in the 2 pieces of dry coral, my boyfriend and I washed them in bleachy water and soaked overnight, then rinsed them in warm water until there was no bleachy smell and then soaked them again overnight in tank water. About a week into the new tank, I've noticed the coral showing some small green and red spots. Could this coral be live? Or are they nasty microorganisms that could hurt my fish? PLease help; I'd hate for anything to happen to them!

Sounds like algae. What's your specific gravity?

Its Prolly Brown Algae I was gettin it alot bc a piece of white dead coral I bought. I tried the same thing you did and still got algae All over it . So I just took It out and added Lace rock. Although I did notice the pattern that it grew on the coral and was able to determine that it was growing also bc of a lamp in the living room. Now if the tank lights off late with the light on .... a blanket goes over the tank so It wont keep happening.
