Puffer ID
My wife and set out yesterday to buy a small silver arowana and a school of clown loaches for our 175g tank. On the way from one fish shop to another, we stopped off a pretty ghetto fish shop. We were browsing the aisles of tanks and came across a tank full of hairy puffers (either Monotrete Baileyi or suvattii) that were dubbed "pig-nosed puffers". All of those puffers were sitting in the gravel...lurking. Bet there was a different puffer in there with them. We asked the man what it was and he replied "it came in with them". It was apparent that it wasn't like the others at all: it was active and swimming around and aggressive. It was screaming to us "get me out of here!". So we paid the modest $18 price and were on our way. We have really no idea what this guy is so I was hoping you can help ID him.
hopefully the image posted. If it does not, look in my user gallery.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Puffer ID
Check the FW puffers in our Pufferpedia but my 1st guess is a M abei. I hope you're keeping him alone!

I like how he is looking directly at you with an innocent look.
"No I promise I did not eat that loach thing....hey, um..just wondering...just throwing this out there..do you have any more of those loachy things..I could watch it an make sure nothing happens to it"

Haha. My wife thought they would all be friends. 20 mins later and it's a buffet line. I think we are gonna call him "Abe"purplecandle wrote:I like how he is looking directly at you with an innocent look.

Re: Puffer ID
I would also say Abei as that looks very much like my puffer I recently rehomed, Hymie. I made the mistake of trying to have a Oto in there with my Abei, and they were okay for several days and then one morning I found it with a big bite to the tummy.

I would agree Abei, even if that's not exactly correct its a freshwater, lurker type so 20-30 gallons and keep it alone.
