Re: High Nitrates In Tap Water
This community is strangely configured. One street wide for much of its 3-mile length, with previously undeveloped woods on the down-slope in strips on both sides of the street and houses. Most of the area is banned for rifles, so only bow-hunters can work here safely and legally. The deer are not stupid. We have a monster buck who is much too fertile. He has evaded a lot of hunters.

Absolutely nothing - the original note on the local herd was noted as totally off-topic.
The vitamin C business is however exactly on-topic.

Coralife sells a very budget-conscious slow drip denitrator.
As for the off topic discussion, I lived on LI for most of my life and deer are a PLAGUE. Part of the problem with deer control(now that we've wiped out their predators) is hunters want the big bucks, which doesn't help long term at all. No matter how many bucks you kill, you still get the same number of pregnant does the next season(all of them). You have to kill the does to control population. They taste just as good

No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.
Re: High Nitrates In Tap Water
True but the does will only produce one or two offspring a season whereas a buck can produce... a lot. Not saying I agree or disagree but there is a lot to be said about killing males too. The thing is you have to do it in the right proportion and it's unlikely that that's happening!
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: High Nitrates In Tap Water
That's precisely the reasoning used to justify the hunting of bucks, and it's often repeated - the argument is exactly the one you make, which is that a buck can have as many as 50 offspring a season, so we should kill them... but the reality is that even if you kill 95% of the bucks(and we can't get even close to that) every single doe would still be carrying by the end of their season, precisely becuase the 5% of remaining bucks is enough to get the job done. Shooting mommy deer SOUNDS cruel... until you've seen a big deer kill, their starved to death bodies frozen where they collapsed in the snow.

Guilty as charged, no contest.
We had venison chili over the weekend. No further comment.

Grain fed, mass raised meat animals may give a more tender cut, but wild-grown meat has a flavor that simply can't be replicated in farmed meats.
