Moving with puffers

I have a question. It’s not going to be an issue for more than a year, but it’s been on my mind, so I thought I’d ask.

I’m winding down on my undergraduate degrees, and in the fall of 2011 I will be going to grad school. I don’t know yet where the school will be located, but I know I will be moving far away from where I live now, possibly out of state.

Right now my GSP, Gollum, is in a 45 gallon brackish set-up. It’s friggin’ heavy, even empty, much worse with gravel and whatnot. What is the best way to move tanks long distances? Do I tear everything down and start over in the new house, or try to leave some water in the bottom to keep all the beneficial bacteria? Where do I put Gollum during the actual move? A smaller tank? A bag?

I was thinking this could be a good time to convert him over to full marine, which I might consider if I have the money at the time, but how would I do that? Would I keep him in a smaller tank while the marine one cycles with new live sand and rock, then move him over, or do the whole thing with him in there?

Any advice would be nice. Basically, I want to do this with as little stress to him (and myself) as possible.
