MBU stressed by tank mates?

I will get my MBU in a couple days and I am just wondering if you would recommend me to put any other fish with him or not? Do you think he would have a longer lifespan if kept alone? Or do you think that doesnt have an effect at all? Im just trying to find out what would be the perfect setup for him. Of course I will not put any other puffers in the tank, but what about an elephant fish or some kind of cichlids?

I know some people won't agree with this, but I keep a salivator puffer in with Beeboo, my Mbu and they are good buddies. I'm not joking either, they really hang around together and seem to get along just fine. I did remove the other puffers (C irrubesco) because I think they were intimidating my Mbu, but I left Mr Stripey (C salivator) in there on purpose and that's because I believe they enjoy each other's company. Now that's just me, it might not work for someone else. I also have Cory's and gobies in that tank too. I also removed the rasboras from the tank. So it's down to just a few inhabitants now.

Do you have a tank larger than 1000 US gallons?

IME, all puffers other than SAPs and DPs live much longer lives as solitary specimens. Those two I have never tested alone, so have no data on them.
