GSPs and Scallops?

I forgot to ask and make sure..but are scallops (uncooked) ok for GSPs?

I feed them last night as a treat for some of my GSPs doing well in a move out of quarantine.

I love scallops myself and thought I would give it a try.

And WOW did they love them!

But, in my experience when animals of any kind love something it is often not good for them LOL..

Of course they are soft and I would not feed them everyday..

I should have asked before feeding but oh well..

Any thoughts?

My puffers love them. Only problem is I always find them in little squares, without shells, so they're a soft food for them.

ok, just wanted to make sure..I have not seen much written about scallops..I guess because they are on the expensive side sometimes..

Plus when I eat them they seem so "decadent and fatty and GOOD"

I guess they are indeed a rarish treat for well-behaving GSPs LOL

We have them here, on the half shell, and my Mbu didn't want anything to do with them. The other puffers just picked at it, but no one really ate it. In the end, I removed it from the tank, stuck it in the nuker and fed it to my dogs! They loved it! I love scallops myself too.

Yup, locally we rarely see scallops in the the shell, so I have not used them much. Except for human food, of course.

Why not in the shell? The fish guy where I got the T. mbu and T. lineatus food said that the customers would not buy them in the shell.

I rarely feed puffers soft foods. When I do it is most likely to be an earthworm or a piece thereof - they really love those. But then again, I do consider shrimp soft to semi-soft food and use those a lot. Perhaps I am inconsistent.

I wonder why? Are they unattractive? All other mollusks are sold in the shell.

My guess would be laziness. Nobody wants to clean and behead a fish, and they don't - it is already done. The shellfish may be next. Folks will think that scallops are always soft and squishy things.

I actually think scallops are the single most attractive looking shellfish when in-shell. But yes, laziness is a major factor.

when it comes to buying fish, the reason they are usually already gutted is to preserve freshness. I cook/butcher alot seafood where i work and I have never gotten scallops with the shell on.

Since both my boyfriend and my burrfish love scallops, we have them around the house at all times. They come in nice little packets at the grocery store for $1 each, hehe.

My turgidus though absolutely hates them and will not touch them, so test them out on individual puffers before buying a ton

Scallops sauteed in butter with crumbled bacon... I may drool on the keyboard... Or at lest go have lunch.
