New mystery guest from LR purchase.

Post by JaxPuffer »

Got a new little guy that happened to be a hitch hiker on some LR. I know it is a goby and almost looks like a Mandarin except that it's circles of color are almost all perfect circles. Anyone know what this is so I can figure out how to properly take care of the new guy. Sorry for the not so great pics. Just don't know how to use the camera properly.

Does looks like a little mandarin fish...very cool but hope you have a mature tank and lots of pods, they are known for being difficult to feed/keep alive...

I've got one of those. If you don't see him eating prepared foods, please trade him into your LFS. 99% off them will only eat live pods & eat their weight in them/day. A new tank just can't support one.

try mysis, but its rare for them to eat prepared foods. I tired one in my 90g, I had a 55g attached fuge with a 6-8" deep sand bed, even that did not produce enough pods to sustain it.

I see mine eating live blackworms (soaked in Selcon & Vita-Chem). He's really fat! Of course, it's a 90g with a 20g sump & 20g fuge, established for3 years...

It is called a iridescent mandarin goby ( might not bet spelled right). Sometimes called a iridescent dragonette. It is also sometimes called green target goby.

All of the Bay Area and Los Angeles distributors seem to call it that too.

But hey common names are often unreliable..

After some research I believe that I am going to take this cute little guy to the LFS, that is unless anyone here is in the Jacksonville, Fl. area and wants the little guy. I just don't think that I have the proper set up for the trippy fish to thrive. O' well he was cool to look at for a bit. He has talked me into building a refugium though (almost complete) so it was a good thing that he hitchhiked his way over.
