SAP & corydoras

I've had a group of 5 (6-1) SAPs for a year now. a couple of months ago a put 5 corydoras sp. black in the tank with the puffers. 2 of the cories dissapeared and the remaining 3 got fin-nipped a bit by the SAPs.

now, after moving 9 aquariums and xxx fish - the SAPs have housed with some other cories as well.

and I've noticed a thing: the biggest and slowest cory in the tank, a Corydoras schwartzi, has not gotten fin-nipped. neither have another unidentified cory. both species have coloured patterns on their fins. maybe this is why the SAPs have left these cories alone?

other cories in the same tank, corydoras aenus, with plain fins with no patters, have got fin-nipped.

any other have positive experience housing SAPs together with different kind of SAPs?

My cories and SAPs have been doing perfectly together for 3 months now? Not a single nip. This is not normal though.

If my cories start to get nipped then they will be moved to a different tank. To quote RTR, NIMFT. Those cories have no control over their situation and as a responsible fish keeper I will not allow my fish to live where they are being bitten or harassed.

I don't understand--you already know what your puffers will do to cories. Why put them together again?

I'm surprised, the SAP's I used to have were so timid, I could not imagine them nipping any other fish at all. Now dwarf puffers, well that's a different story!

All cories can release stress poison, but the ones with orange fins (like c. sterbai) are the worst.

I must agree with PP. Why try cories with the SAPs when you know the SAPs nip fins?

I have two c. sterbai and two Corydoras brevirostris or Corydoras ambiacus.

Someday, fishkeepers may even grasp the concept of species tanks. Then as those folks mature in the hobby, some will try for two or three species in a tank and they will find out how different and difficult it cane be to get the same behavior and health and lifespan and wonder that in the bad old days folks actually kept Noah's Ark and confetti tanks.
