Off to wash my hands again and use anti bac gel.

I've heard of mucking very often. A stall, box, or field perhaps but I've never heard of mucking the horse out directly. Thought it was a cute typo that no one else has caught and hence the lack of funniness.

RTR, you know, there is a breed of horses called "curlies" that are hypoallergenic, kind of like big horse-shaped poodles. Just in case you ever really, really wanted to get close to a horse.

Freeze dried anything gives me problems, luckily frozen bloodworms don't seem to bother me but I still try not to touch them. FYI, don't feed them while still frozen, thaw them out in a little tank water first.

Live blackworms in the fridge have scared off many a potential boyfriend in the past.. good thing they never saw me clean a gelding's sheath! (yeah, another horse joke, if you don't know, don't ask, you don't want to know)

with regards to hand feeding - i wouldnt do it as they can see your hands/fingers and associate with food and if at any time your arms hands need to go into the tank they can bite you - i use the rear end of a long tank scraper to feed mine

Myaj - lol I KNOW what that means and sadly have had to do it too! lol I have a gelding.. try and make it quick and painless for us both - I'm sure he blushes! lol

I thaw blood worms out first but have found holding the 'block' while it's still a tidy bit frozen works so the puffers get the worms that are on the outside / thawed and then it fully thaws in there but I take the majority out again as it's too much for my two DP's.
Lol at the worms scaring your boyfriends! lol Maybe you need to meet a man who fishes and doesn't mind worms! lol

Flutter - was funny - really would save the expense of bedding being ruined! lol My 5 year old daughter asked once why Thunder (our horse) didn't go to the toilet! lol can you imagine!? lol

Oye, the plumbing bills! I'd be happy if I could train them to just go in the wheelbarrow for me.. but you know they'd just use it as a big toy and manage to hurt themselves! My first horse thought Muck Buckets were made soley for his entertainment, he'd spend hours trying to stand on one with all four feet like a circus elephant. Thank goodness he never got more than 2 up there at the same time!

My current boyfriend not only doesn't mind the worms, but goes out and buys them and feeds! Can't ask for more than that.. well, maybe that he'd do water changes ROFL

with only having the two dps a small block of blood worm will last them days - id leave a block defrost in the fridge and then id give them just what they need to fill their bellys with some forceps to hold the worms . then put the rest back into the fridge for the next day

Auto - have been 'dunking' the block still partly frozen but allowing them to take a couple before withdrawing it to go to my leopard bush fish in the main tank. that way they get fresh without the need of the fridge. lol They're cute to feed aren't they! They really know it's me.. or well someone! lol

JP thanks for the info, sadly with 3 children, 1 horse, 2 dogs, 1 rabbit and a load of fish.. not mentioning college of a monday night - I really haven't got the time.

Myai - marry that man quickly! lol My DH does the lifting (trug out to the garden) when it comes to water changing but that's it. lol

Herself it entirely too wise. I only had a dozen tanks when we married, but with great foresight, she declined to learn anything about fish and their care. If I am away, or incapacitated, the fish-sitters come on duty.

Have a gelding too. There's something comical about getting in up to your elbow. Thankfully my horse doesn't kick but he sure sucks everything back. He gets a good cleaning once a year when he's sedated for his teeth. It's much more difficult the other times and we can only do it during warm weather anyways.
