I'm back and sad

Post by Pandora114 »

Not because Pepsi has passed away, he's acutally in very good health. The reason why I'm sad is, I have to give him up...I have an ad in the classifieds if anyone can take him in my area

i read it earlier... what if you put the substrate in the uncycled tank, the filter, filter media, and original water... maybe your mom could take it then you wont have to give him up... hes gorgeous btw, how big is he?

I'm on the West Coast of Canada...She's on the East Coast..we're moving to the East Coast. He'd be able to survive the shipping but I doubt the bacteria would...

he's roughly 4" now. I got him when he was just an inch and a half

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure the bacteria would be fine if you shipped it in some dirty water. If you're really worried why not put some fish food or detritus in with it to provide some ammonia. Heck, or put a bit of ammonia in the water. The bacteria should be pretty tough :) I remember reading something about 2 weeks without fish, not a couple days.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

have you thought about buying Dr Tims? i tried it, and just like everyone said, it really does instantly cycle your tank... depending when you are leaving, you could also get some filter fiber (they sell big bags for really cheap).... what if you put a bunch of that in your filter to let the bacteria collect and then ship it with the puff... if you keep it wet it should stay alive.... if you did those 2 things, im sure your tank would be okay... i dont know much about marine tanks... but im assuming it would be the same general concept as FW, if you match the salinity then add the dr tims for SW... it would be okay right? may want to ask around about it if you arent sure either, puffer punk would know

its just a thought, you seem like you really care about him, i know id be devostated if i had to rehome my fahaka... just throwin out some ideas... i definately think it would be worth looking into, it sounds like youve had him for a while... okay well good luck

I can't help either, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry you have to give up your puffer and I hope you can either sort a way to take him with you, or that you find someone that will care for him as much as you have. :)

I wouldn't give him up if your mom's home can have a tank for him. Isn't there any american online shop that ships Dr. Tims in east coast? Isn't there anybody in the forum living in east coast of Canada who could give you some cycled media.

I guess that moving will not be a trouble for you and your puffer, since there will be an alternative way to handle this new cycling process.

I would take all my puffers with me anywhere I would move.

I'll call mom and see if she still has a tank, even if it's just a temp 20 gal. See, We're getting a moving company..so it's unlikely we'll be there the same day as the stuff so taking him in the car with us would be really difficult (not to mention our 3yo little boy would be in the back seat)

Shipping would be the only option, and even then there's no guarantee he'd even survive it.

If I can't find him a home with a person I contacted the Vancouver Aquarium to see if they could take him, since we'll be going to see it anyway.
