Tank Size

Post by CartilageFish »

I currently have one gsp in a 10 gal. tank. I'm thinking about moving him to a 20 gallon tank.
He's about 2 inches now, would he grow/be better off in the larger tank? :?

he would grow better in a 20gal than a 10... they need a minimum of 25gal each, but if you already bought the 20 then it could work, just keep up on water changes, it should be fine... do you plan on switching to brackish in the near future? they need high end brackish and eventually full marine... how long have you had him? got any pix? we <3 pix :)

kilofey, 30g is the bare minimum, not 25.

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

whoops! i could swear it was 25... sorry bout that... but say if someone already bought a 20 and kept up on water changes, it would be okay in that tank right? i mean yes, i agree, the proper tank size would be ideal... but it could work right? i mean if it was already bought... it would be a heck of a lot better than that 10gal right?
EDIT: thanks for the correction :)

a GSP is a pretty active little "gross polluter"

I actually couldn't see one really happy in anything less than 40g. I mean, they're the size of a Nerf football!

Yeah, TBH, I wouldn't keep a GSP in 30... I wouldn't keep a mbu in 1,000...They're big enough, yeah, but they can't be comfortable for such active fish. My bettas can be happy and content in tiny tanks, as long as the decorations are complex; I keep one of them in a 3g. But they're not terribly active fish. Healthy GSPs, on the other hand, seem to be moving nonstop whenever I see them!
