Nerite snails

I was thinking of getting a few snails for my tank and heard nerite snails could lve in brackish water. Is that any kind of nerite snail or only certain ones?

They will probably get eaten b/c I have f8's but I want to give it a try b/ci love having snails and I hope that if they are bigger they won't be noticed lol

Olive Nerites are the best species for FW; they inhabit FW to BW in the wild, but breed in BW to SW. They do deposit individual eggs in FW, but those do do develop or hatch in FW conditions.

However, I would not suggest using Nerites with F-8s. Their shells are hard (as are most Nerites), and too large for F-8s. Incisor breakage is possible. NIMFT.

Hmmm I didn't even think of that

But I guess I could get some and if they showed interest in them I could put the snails in a different freshwater tank right?

Are there any other snails that would be appropriate? My SG is 1.006

Ive been thinking the same thing.... Nerite's to help with excess algea in my brackish.... If they are big enough hopefully my GSP would leave them alone. But.... I have given my GSP larger sized snails and she knows she cant break the shell so she has this technique where she bites on the head and pulls everything she can out of the shell. These little fish are soooo smart its kinda scary some times.....

define999: that is the "bite and slurp" technique, approximately what loaches do with snails, ditto DPs frequently with larger snails. I'm not surprised that the other puffers can and will do the same. .

herplover22: Yup, the olive Nerites do fine in FW, they just cannot breed successfully there.

I think I will try to find sone and give them a try and if the f8s try to eat them I will move them to another tank
