Puffer Hybrid? Is the possible?

Post by mrgreen »

I saw these at Petco. They look like a mix between F8s and GSPs!

Some hybrids are possible, like the pustulaka, but I really don't think it's possible to have a F8/GSP combo!

There are many puffer forms, which are not necessarily hybrids. GSPs alone have many variants, which these could be but they appear to lack the bright green head spot to me - can others see any sign of it? If not, then likely a Ceylon.

But remember, I am not seeing well right now, especially videos. So don't bet the farmon my ID.

I went back in to the store and told the guy he has two ceylon puffers. I showed him TPF page on Ceylon care. So he says "great" and then that it will be hard to sell these fish with those requirements. He didn't change the sign but told his coworker and some customers that they're Ceylons and what dummies they are at the big center they order from. This other employee later said he hopes they make it. They were in with aboyt 10 Tiger barbs. The barbs were too fast at the food and one had ick. The guy was pretty knowlege about fish- as far as I could tell- and took eberything I told him about puffs. I wish I could house the ceylons, but like the 2nd employee, I think they aren't long for this world. Even after all this, the first guy said they'll prolly just sell them as F8s. Most people would put them in their freshwater 10 gallon community.

The guy TOLD you that he was going to do an unethical (and probably illegal) thing? That's so... Wrong.

Basically. He was sort of at a loss as to how to sell this type of fish to the typical customer , after hearing the requirements and that they'd get to 8 inches. They were sent instead of F8s. Unfortunately, I doubt their F8s are sold as brackish, even though this particular employee understood what I told him about puffer bioload and brackish requirements.

I keep hearing about this Fahaka-Pustulatus hybrid. Is this actually true, or are we hypothesizing here? I think it would be rather cool to own something like that. I mean, let's face it, most puffers don't breed in captivity, so doesn't anyone else think if you could get a Fahaka and a Pustulatus to breed, that would be an awesome thing? My question would be, how did no death occur before breeding? We're talking about 2 big puffers, getting together and breeding.
Sorry to be skeptical, but it's one of those things that I won't believe until I see it. And if there is such an animal, I'd love to have one! :D
