Once you bring a GSP to full marine, can you go back?

I slowly brought my GSP to full marine. He's now 4-5inches long, but I was wondering if I could now slowly bring the salinity back down to a lower level? Or will that negatively effect him?

You can, but why would you want to? The filtration for SW is much easier to maintain than BW.

I hate to even entertain this idea, but I might have to find Zephyr a new home. The "Green Spotted Puffer" that was sold to me a couple years ago that the fish store told me I could fit 3 in a 10 gallon, turned out to be a Ceylon Puffer and grow much bigger. I initially listened to the LFS and got 3 for a 10 gallon tank, but after finding this forum I upgraded it to a 50g tank. Two passed away after about 6 months, but my remaining one keeps growing and is outgrowing the 50g now. In a 50g, his size combined with his aggressive nature, make a football player in a phone booth look roomy. There is no way I can fit a 70-100g tank in my apartment.

I figure more people would be interested in Zephyr if I could bring him back down to Brackish. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

Really? I'm surprised, as the minimum tank size recommended for a Ceylon is 40g. They're not supposed to be that aggressive either. How big is he? Do you have a pic?

min=40g....but doesn't it also say they can grow to 8"....how many 8" fish should be in a 40g? His personality is very aggressive...not sure if they are all like that, but he is.

There was also talk that he looks like Giant Spotted Puffer....but I would say more like a Ceylon.

Aha! Just as I thought... not a Ceylon at all. What you have my friend, is a GIANT spotted puffer, Tetraodon sabahensis:

It was my understanding 'way back when we set up the PufferPedia, that the suggested sizes were "no tankmates, puffer only." So even if were a Ceylon, the 40 would be for it alone. The aggression bothered me too - from my limited Ceylon experience, they were unusually gentle fish - for a puffer.

Really? From those two pictures and my years of watching him, I'd say it looks a lot more like a Ceylon, but with spots on his back. Actually it's identical to the Ceylon, besides the spots. I wish there were more pictures of the Giant Spotted Puffer

Ceylons actually have lines on their back, similar to the F8 & have spots on their belly.

I used to think they were GSPs but I'm not so sure they're not Giant spotted. Funny thing is, most folks have posted they don't like the higher SG that Green spotteds do.

hes beautiful... id do everything in my power to keep that guy... find room, youre CRAZY! lol... my compliments to the fish keeper who cares what it is! its part of the family now... cant give him up too pretty to get rid of IMO... well, anyway... good luck in whatever you decide

Where are you located? If you decided that you had to part with him, I'm sure you'd have no problem finding a place for him, he's soooo gorgeous! (I'd take him in a heartbeat!) But hopefully, you'll be able to work things out...

I'm in London Ontario....where abouts (read aboots) in Ontario are you? I really don't want to part with him, but I don't think I can give him the tank he needs.
