fahaka puffer

Post by slmon »

i have a 90 gallon freshwater tank that i was hoping i could set up as a fahaka tank. i have read that they do need a little more tank space then that but i intend on keeping him alone and doing frequent water changes. so i would like to no a) will he thirve in fresh water, or is he brackish b) will a 90 gallon tank suffice?

i appreciate any help i can get...

Fahakas are fresh water. If you weren't sure on that I recommend you do more research on them, there are some great informative pages on this site that could help you with that. Now about the required tank size, he'll be fine in the 90g until he reaches 10 or so inches. But, keep in mind they have the maximum length of 18 inches and grow 2 inches per month. Which doesn't give you much time to upgrade. I recommend you just get the larger tank now, it'll save your time and a lot less hassle down the road.

Lets put it this way, moving large fish is difficult, moving large fish that aren't meant to be exposed to air imo = very difficult...

I should have said, they have the potential to grow 2 inches in a month. I clearly remember reading a person's fahaka growing roughly 2 inches in a month. Also note when I wrote my prior post, there were 30+ views and no comments so I figured I'd post what I knew off the top of my head for advice... and it took another 3 days just for there to be another comment... :? Some good advice is better than none, I guess. :( I'll try and find that article about his growing 2 inches.
