i appreciate your opinions... i really do... but i honestly dont think its possible for the flounder to eat any of the DPs... like i said, the DPs are about 10x the size of her mouth... and they eat their meals in whole bites... so its just not possible... im just saying IF she managed to figure out a way to do it... then id return her...she could also go in my 55gal with a divider... no big deal... i think youre making it more serious than it has to be... and it wouldnt be punishing her... it would be taking her back until my other tank is freed up completely... but id more than likely just put 2 dividers back to back (because my red devil managed to break through just one)... and the dividers are ridgid enough that he wont be able to break through 2 of them... they are the flourescent light grids... calm down guys... its not that serious

I never meant to infer the the flounder would eat your DPs. This was brought up from my confusion that you bought a miurus & put it in your DP Tank. BTW, I think it is inhumane to feed live feeders to fish, when there are much better alternatives.

whoops! sorry PP, that was for doraemon... i should have quoted it to reduce confusion...

but about feeders, i think its inhumaine for the fish that is eating the feeders if its being fed goldfish... i dont know much about feeder guppys nutritional value, but i assume they are better than goldfish... for the simple fact that people dont say as much bad stuff about them, i know i could be wrong on that, but i dont feed gold fish or guppies to my red devil any more, since i found out how bad gold fish were a while ago, so i havent taken the time to find out... but for the feeder itself, i dont believe its inhumaine, in the wild, are there little cubes of chopped up fish and seaweed and such? no, its real live swimming breathing fish, and thats just the circle of life taking place... i was just trying to make a comparison that there are people out there that do feed their fish feeders, and a comet goldfish is no different than a dwarf puffer other than the name humans have slapped on the goldfish as "feeders" or the dramatic price difference between a goldfish and a puffer... it was just for the comparison... other than that, i think my dps are safe... i actually looked for "ariel's" mouth today... and its about this big "." lol i really dont think they can fit in a mouth that size :D im completely confident they will do well in the same tank for a while

If the flounder ate the dp's wouldnt the flounder die as well from the puffer toxin?

I know puffers lose their toxin in captivity over time and some captive bred like dp's may not carry it,but wouldnt that be a risk?
(im not starting a argument here i just want to know) :)

Kilofey my intent for my question was for pp to answer bcos she said they would be dinner,i didnt know she didnt know it was your flounder.
I only asked a question i never gave you an opinion so i dont understand how i am making it more serious,i did state that i wasnt intending to start a argument i just wanted to know the answer bcos of what pp said...i tend to be a lurker in the forum and rarely post my opinions on topics whether i agree with it or not..

And this is what I don't think is fair. If it's not possible that's fine, but to even think about returning a fish for acting like a fish... I just don't get it.

And I'm done with this, I just don't think you're getting where I'm coming from (and that's fine) but I'm not wasting more time on it.

lol calm down hun... IF something happens, she will be put in the 55gal with a divider. i promise. i wont return her... but honestly, does a fish realize its being returned? no... and im sure its way less stressful to take the less than 5 minute drive back to the petstore than it was to be caught and shipped to the petstore i bought her at. and does that mean you shouldnt buy fish at all since the drive home is stressful? then how did you get your fish into your tank?... i will keep her no matter what tho.. dont worry... and thats IF she can manage somehow to eat a DP... which mind you, her mouth is about this small "." imagine a DP getting munched in one bite with a mouth that small... comeon now.... its just not realistic, now this thread is getting ridiculous.

PS- i would never return a fish for being a fish... i would be returning it for the safety of my tank inhabitants... how unreasonable is that? IF one did get eaten, should i keep it just so the fish doesnt "feel bad" and "feel punished"? should i keep it and let all the other ones get eaten? um no thats ridiculous.... its just like with cichlids, you cant tell a fish's personality until you get it home with your other fish and see if it works in your tank or not, and if its temprament isnt well matched in your tank, is it not better to take it back so that it may be happy in someone elses tank? its completely unreasonable for you to think returning a fish is "punishing" it... keeping it in a tank it is not suited for IS punishing it... comeon now, get your argument straight before you say it. im usually not the type of person to argue with someone, but when theyre telling me im being a bad fish owner just because i would consider returning a fish if it was not suited for my tank, that makes me mad. especially when the argument the person is trying to start is pointless! there is no way it could get eaten... the mouth is just too small... so please dont reply, youre wasting my time. UGH!

oh god, im so sorry... im getting so confused on who said what in this thread... i thought it was your post that made me mad... im sorry, it wasnt you... i apologize... i feel so bad now, cause i went back and read your post and i realized it was the wrong one, and yours was actually pretty reasonable  anyway... im not sure if they have poison any more but, if they did, it wouldnt be safe to put them with any fish... and people do it all the time... but it doesnt worry me because my flounder's mouth is so small, they wont become dinner. theres just no way.

sorry again! didnt mean to piss you off :(

It's just that you aren't getting what I'm trying to say and I don't know how else to say it so you can understand, so I've stopped. I certainly don't think a fish can feel punished and you've completely focused on something that I put in quotation marks for a reason... It was just the best word I could think of and I never said that the fish would feel that way. You've completely spun this into something different. I know you aren't doing it on purpose, I just don't know how to explain it better, especially when you're jumping all over it.

Relax, I'm not upset at all and there's no reason for you to be upset either. I've told you that you aren't understanding what I'm trying to say, therefore your comments are completely off the wall. They're based off of something that you're interpreting, after I already told you you aren't getting it right. Does that make sense? You're commenting on something I'm not meaning at all, no need to get worked up about it :) Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

im not worked up at all... it doesnt bother me a bit because i know i wont need to return it because its perfectly happy and healthy and safe in the tank, so are my DPs. :) i just get short fused when it begins to sound like someone is trying to be a "puffer god" because there are quite a few on here... so if you arent trying to be a "know it all" or an "over the top, save the fishies" kind of person, then im sorry, but either way... it doesnt matter.

okay, no more talking about it... i dont want enemies on this site lol.... im sorry *shake hands* :D

Off on a tangent here.. I do think returning a fish to a fish store is "punishing" them.. considering the water conditions, diseases and parasites you'll find in most fish stores! However if someone can't keep one and the only alternative for the fish is death, then its a better alternative.

thanks for understanding... and i actually never thought of it that way (about returning it to a disease ridden place)... but on the other hand... buying the fish in the fist place could be punishing the fish you already have because most people dont have a quarantine tank... as much as that sucks, most people dont have a full set up just laying around... i certainly dont, i live in a small 1br apartment... and two 55s and a 16 gal pretty much puts my place at its limit lol... i would love to have a quarantine tank... but for me, its just not doable.... but either way, my FW flounder isnt going back to the pet store, we'll make it work here no matter what, though shes doing great and so are my DPs she is with

however, if someone bought a fish and HAD to return it, they could just think of it as the fish coming back from a "vacation" to a lovely resort lol. sorry. not trying to make light of the subject... shes not going any where... i like her too much... really cool fishy

Haha, I'm nothing like any of that. I don't know much about puffers and almost never give advice on them, there's other people for that. I don't know anywhere near it all, and I'm not a big animal rights save the fish type person either. Did it actually come across like that? If so I'm sorry, I didn't mean it to sound anything like that. At all.

Friends? Lol. Alright, not enemies ;)

id love to send one, but since she is so flat... and blends in with the substrate... i cant manage to get even a partially decent picture :( and the fact that i only have a camera phone doesnt help either lol... well, we have a didgital camera... but i always accidentally leave it on and it drains the batteries almost all the time lol whoops! Ariel is a cutie though... doesnt do a whole lot, but i like watchin her just sit there, being a flounder... definately not a very eventful fish... but cool none the less :) if i ever manage to get a good pic of her, ill post it
