A few questions about gsp

i am thinking of getting a Gsp but have a few questions first
ok fir my f8 tank they are at 1.006 sg and I just use HOB filters for it

but with the GSP needing a much higher salinity and possibly even full marine what type of filtration would I need? If I kept him at very high salinity but not full marine would I still be able to use a HOB filter?

That is really my main question I just don't know what I would need filtration wise

also can they live at high brackish for their entire lives or do they have to be in full marine? I have heard different things

Well I've got 2 GSP's and I intend on keeping them in high brackish for the remainder of their lives and I'm just using regular filters, in their case a Fluval filter. I don't see why you would need a special filter, unless you are going to full marine conditions. I don't care to do that with my GSP's .... and I really don't think they require it, although I do believe they can live that way.

Yes, PPG is correct--they don't necessarily require marine conditions--high-end BW is good. It's just that the filtration options change drastically (protein skimmer, live rock, live sand) in marine, which alleviates the need for such huge water changes, saving you a ton of $$$ on Salt.

Ok thanks I think I will probably stick with high end brackish for now and possibly go marine later

they had a huge gsp at the Lfs( he was at least 3in and normally they get them in at 1/2in) so I hope he is still there

I plan on cycling with biospira or dr.tims since it is high brackish water would I get the stuff for FW or SW?

Find out what SG the fish is in at the shop & ask again. Personally, with BW, I'd do a fishless cycle.

They keep them in fresh water.

So I guess I will just start him off in fresh water and graually raise the salinity, or just run the filter on my other tank and then graually increase the SG From there
