My Little Obie

Post by pufferpuggirl »

I just thought I'd show a few photos of my little Obie Wan Fahaka. I've had him just over one month and he's grown in just the short time I've had him. Very smart little guy too. Before I got a Fahaka I didn't understand why people were always going on about them, but I have to admit, they do have a special something about them.
I was trying to take these photos of Obie and I swear he didn't want me to. He hid underneath his bogwood, then he darted into the PVC tube, and then he came out of the tube just as fast and shot under the bogwood again. He kept peering out to see if I was still there with the camera. If he seen me, but not the camera, then he would come out, but once I put the camera up to take a shot, he was gone. I messed up most of the really good photos, and unfortunately these were all I was left with. I still want to try to get some good shots of him when he's being handsome - I will not give up! :D

Here's Obie Wan the Fahaka

Here he's eaten a little and is feeling satisfied

This is him trying to hide from the camera, and doing a great job of it too!

Nice-looking fellow. Be careful with that fine sand though--it'll have to be stirred thoroughly, even under those plants.

Yeah I've got like a stake (similar to a tent peg) and I poke around in the sand with that regularly, just to keep it from getting hard in places, as it seems to do sometimes. I've not gotten bitten by Obie yet, but he seems keen to bite me if he got the chance. :)

Thanks Lisa, I better get as many pics of him while he's little as I can because I think he's going to grow quickly, and puffers are so adorable when they are small. He's quite a character already too! :D

He's awesome!!!! They really are all different my lil guy starts moving around like he's looking for something then he eyeballs the camera almost to make sure I'm still snappin shots of him, he's a ham. I don't know what's more funny a camera hog or a shy guy.

That's funny digger because I swear that Obie only hid when he saw the camera, otherwise he was fine. As soon as I lifted the camera to get a shot, he was off! And when he peered out of the PVC tube, well that was too funny because I know he was wondering if I still had the camera pointed at him. Obie also seems to change his colours when I want to get a pic. He will be so beautiful with his lines well defined, and then he will change his colouring and the lines become somewhat blurred.
But I do now understand the attraction people have had to these very alert and attentive puffers. :D

maybe you could do a little experiment with this... every time you go to feed him, have the camera in your hand... or maybe pointed at him or something, after you know hes seen it... feed him... maybe he will eventually associate your face as well as the camera with yummy treats :) i figure if fahakas can learn that certain people mean food may be coming and that other people mean there is nothing coming... maybe they can learn to associate the camera in the same way they do a human... then im sure you can get some really spectacular photos, cause he may stay out and about as long as the camera is there???

it could work, it may be a fun experiment and good to share the results with everyone on TPF. i would try it myself with Kukah, but hes such an attention hog i dont even need the camera lol... but im sure there are a lot of people that have shy puffs and would love to see if this works... just an idea ive had & been curious if it works

That's interesting kilofey, I may have to try something like that.

It's funny though because the backing paper on the aquarium used to come around the sides part-way and Obie would do a hide-n-seek type thing with me. He would hide behind the paper, and then peek around to see if I was still there, and if I was, he would retreat back behind the paper again, and he would do this a few times. It's not as if he's afraid of me, because he will happily come out and see me whenever I stop by his tank and give him some attention. I finally decided to cut off that excess paper, so he can't do the hide-n-seek anymore, and I don't think he was too happy about me doing that, but it was difficult to see him with it like that. Really weird how something so small can be so intelligent! :D
