Puffer temp ranges

I was starting to make a compatibility list for my fish and I found this a little curious:

SAP 74-80
DP 74-82
Loach 50-77
Pleco 68-82
Ryukin 65-72
Oto 68-79
Koi 65-75
Why is there such a narrow temp range for the puffers? Don't they have seasonal flux in the country of origin?

For SAPs, the real range is about 72-82F. That is still just recorded observations from the wild - that does not mean that anyone has ever checked the tenps year-round (highly unlikely). It means exactly what it says and no more, recorded observations, period, with the caveat that it means "recorded AND published'". And nobody said that the fish were comfortable at either extreme - they may or may not be. They may well be okay beyond either extreme, or may be stressed.

Data is data, period. Interpretation and application is an art form.

Plus it would not hurt to know whether those are suggested tank operation figures, or wild temperatures - my comments were on wild temps. I do know that I keep some of my fish warmer than they should be, but I do not use heaters. My fish are the tank room temps - a tad cooler in winter,a tad warmer in summer, and no easy way to adjust either. Some of the tanks out in the house are the opposite - cooler in summer,warmer in winter. I should keep the rainbows there, more natural to them.

In that SAP breeding PDF I am supprised the writer only mentioned an "average water temp" of almost 83F. I since he was there 11 months I am supprised he didn't chart temps the way he did with water levels

Well, looking at the fish you listed, catfish, loaches and goldfish species all are cooler water fish.. so they obviously will have a much larger range.

Look at something like tetras and barbs, and the temp range will be much smaller.
