Re: my new male 4" peacock mantis shrimp (o. scyllarus)
well i am starting up a mantis shrimp supplier based in the east coast and have a few connections. they are SUPER HARDY! and and very easy. main thing you need to watch is salinity. huge problems when there are any huge swings from evaporation. but take regular care of you tank like you would you freshwater tank and you will be fine. check out this site. if you are interested let me know i will gladly find you one. they say availability at the bottom of each species. i can find rare ones but will take more time. i can get these (o. scyllarus), Pseudosquilla ciliata which are small spearers, Gonodactylus chiragra (smasher), Neogonodactylus wennerae (smasher), Gonodactylus smithii (smasher) and sometime a Gonodactylaceus glabrous will come in.
here is the site.

I really like the O.Scyllarus since it's active both day and night and interactive ....according to the website. I also like the Gonodactylus smithii and the fact that it doesn't require too big of a tank. I'll have my husband look over the website and see what he really likes..Thanks for all the information!

Great pictures!
I've been housing a Mantis shrimp named Manny for a few months now.
Could you tell me how to tell it's gender? Mine is a little mantis shrimp, brown of color with red legs and is about 2 inches in size. Not as colorfull as yours tho! But then again, there are over 400 different species
I looked in that index you posted of species but mine is not in there

there he is prob a g. chiragra or wennerae where did he come from. the tell the diff in sex at the last walking pair of legs there will be hanging next the them on the underside of the mantis two brownish or prob greenish in your mantis things that look like sticks. that would be a male. nothing there and a small slit by last walking pair of legs is a female. here are two pics to help you out.
