I clean out any leftover food from daily feeding and do a good vacuum once a week changing 25%+ of the water. Now this is on other types of puffers, not DPs. But I find it an easy schedule to work with.

Re: How often to clean tank?
Partial water change at least weekly, I generally do 1/3 to 1/2 volume changes. Planted tanks are lightly surface vacuumed, unplanted tank's substrates are full-depth vacuumed with those changes. Mechanical filters* are rinsed at least once weekly (may or may not coincide with water changes). Biofilters* are lightly rinsed in tank water as required, but less than mechanical filters. Viewing glasses are cleaned (inside and out - water only outside as a rule) as needed, ditto for cover glasses.
*If your filtration is all-in-one, not separate as mine is, rinse weekly, with removed tank water or replacement tempered, conditioned water.
