GSP not eating!!

Post by NeviLynn »

My family and I recently brought home a GSP. My parents are not new to having marine fish, they have had a 55gal tank with numerous fish such as a lion fish and different live corals. Unfortunately we are having difficulty making our little friend happy. We have tried dried bloodworms, sun-dried shrimp, and even some shrimp presoaked and drizzled with garlic juice as we read it was an appetite stimulant for GSPs. We do have her in the 55gal with FW for the time being until the salt level is up to par. There are plenty of live plants and rocks for her to hid in. Any possible ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum :)

Here are a couple of feeding articles that may help you.

Problems feeding your puffer

And the feeding article

And here are some good GSP articles if you've not read them yet

Refusal to eat can be a sign of IPs..does he appear to have any internal parasites? What are your water parameters? and how long have you had him?

Thank you for the advice. I have been reading through numerous posts and different articles on here all day, I figured I'd research a little before asking questions. Right now the ph level is 6.7. We have only had her since Sunday but she has not eaten anything, it simply floats around. I forgot to mention before that she is darker and is slowly getting skinnier. She has been staying around the filter spout and rarely leaving that area. She seems not to have any IPs.

Can you tell us the specific gravity, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? pH really isn't something to worry about.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."
