I picked up a narrow-lined puffer named Ulrike yesterday (labeled as a dogface, as usual apparently, and currently in QT - but will eventually be in about 100g between the 72 bow and sump). I've been doing all the research I can on her and have a few questions.
For those with NL puffers, what size do they seem to get? I'm planning on 12", but have read that they stay smaller in captivity.
Also, does the presence of black borders on the tail mean anything? I've read it might mean that they're annoyed or upset, and only see it in some photos, but Ulrike has had a completely black, thin border on her tail since we got her - even when she's happy and begging or eating. Is it the small 10 g QT tank (she's 3", 4 with her tail), or a natural color variation?
Thanks
Narrow Lined Puffer size and moods?
Re: Narrow Lined Puffer size and moods?
The narrow-lined puffer gets about the same size as the dogface. I say about 8 "- 10". 100 g should be just about enough size wise for this guy. As far as the presence of black borders on the tail that is just there coloring. Yellowish lips, black stripes, and black marking around tail area. Good luck with him/her

They are beautiful fish and I do hope to own one someday. I love it when they fan their tails out.
I've never seen one over a foot long, so 100-120 gallons minimum should be good.

I have one too. It's my baby and he/she has black around tail fin and all of it's other fins are solid black. Here's a link if you want to check him/her out. It shares a tank with a stars and stripes.Nic wrote:ug.php/v/User_Galleries/Nic/ulrike1.jpg.html
