Re: Puffer ID help Please
Yes, I agree that it is a turgidus, but my Abei does look like that 2nd photo at times (he's quite the puffer of disguise). My turgidus, Louie, rarely comes out, so it's hard to get a good look at him these days. Even when I feed earthworms, he does a snatch & grab and it's back into the coconut shell!
Anyway busybones, they are quite nice, and hopefully yours will be more sociable than mine is.

Just remember--you may never see him, except at feeding time. That's why Myaj has my Beetlejuice--errr... Bubba. She's much more smitten with him than I was.

Ah, jealous! I have been having turgidus cravings ever since I noticed how darned cute they are just the other day.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

So, I have the new tank set up. I purchased some nice bushy tall plants (fake, they were half off woot woot) and made him two rock caves to hide in. I think he'll enjoy it. I'll get photos tomorrow, the tank is a bit cloudy from me messing with the substrate.

Re: Puffer ID help Please
Don't tempt me! I already have four tanks and every single one of my outlets is full (two power bars, two extension cords, and some of my roomies' plugs as well). No way can I fit another (big!) tank in here. My roommates would kill me. Not to mention moving over to summer housing...busybones wrote:LilGreenPuffer wrote:Ah, jealous! Re: Puffer ID help Please
Lol just thought I'd ask LGP
I'm getting worried about the trip tomorrow. I've never transported a puffer this far. I'm sure I'm just stressing myself out but I can't help but to worry. I'm taking along a small cooler to bring him home in. I had a battery operated bubbler but the batteries exploded in it so I trashed it. What were the travel ones you use LGP? I've tested the water in his new home (nitrate 10, nitrite 0, amm 0)I think everything is in order from him..I hope he is well when I get to him!

Get behind me, Satan!
I don't have a battery-operated pump. My trips are so short that there's really no reason for it.
Keep in mind that your fish came a long, long way to get to you, and a couple more hours in a car with special attention and care is nothing compared to the other things he's been through. If he made it through all that, he'll be fine for this trip.

Re: Puffer ID help Please
If it's any consolation busybones, I've traveled quite far with puffers in the past, and as long as the temperature doesn't fluctuate too much, he should be fine. I always use an insulated carrier when transporting fish. Good luck with getting him, I'm sure everything will turn out just fine.

Re: Getting a M turgidus- Brown Puffer
Heh! I'm so happy you're getting him and WAY jealous! Once he's healthy and comfortable in his surroundings you'll absolutely adore him. Out of all my puffers the colors on Leon are by far the most striking and expressive, the tail spot changes color real quick with mood. I drop a fiddler crab in with him (his favorite thing on earth) and his spot goes nearly pure white and his entire body lightens up dramatically, his hunting colors. When he comes out to greet me his colors are real dark and bold, angry his spot goes near black.
I'm actually in the search for another one and if you hadn't grabbed this one I was going to have you ship him....

Re: Getting a M turgidus- Brown Puffer
I paid $50 for Frankie, who I'm absolutely certain is a turgidus after seeing these pix. He is so cool! He shares his tank with some Endlers and I never see him catching them but he's a real chub...
I just got home from 2 weeks away...I had a friend living in so he was fed and paid attention to, but he was sooooo happy to see me
I would absolutely recommend getting one!

Re: Getting a M turgidus- Brown Puffer
He is home and seems to be very happy now. I was pretty upset to see him in such a small tank at the LFS but I guess he was too aggressive to be put in another tank. I know I said I'd take photos today but I'm going to wait and let him settle in a bit first. He was very stressed at the LFS and when I got him home. But I turned the lights off and he's out exploring now. He seems very healthy (fat) and he's about 3 or so inches long. They had been feeding him goldfish
I know this because he either threw one up or expelled a non digested one out in the transport bag. Gross.
