Getting a M turgidus- Brown Puffer

As a lot of you know I've been on the hunt for a Congo puffer for a while. I've been working with a fish store that can possibly get one for me. The owner of the LFS has asked for my help IDing this puffer. It looks to be from the target group but I'm having trouble pin pointing it. Thanks in advance.

P.S.
I'd go have a look myself but the store is quite far from where I live.

I agree. The guy wants me to come and get him but he's about two hours away and I may not be able to accommodate him depending on what type of puff he is. The bars across his head make Ceylon come to mind but I can't be sure. I've never been good at IDing puffs.

Looks to me to be a Brown puffer (M turgidus).

Yay, I was right! Definitely not a Congo, unfortunately. :( I think turgidi (would that be the plural?) are really cute.

I would agree, a very sad looking turgidus. They have that forehead patch like a ceylon.

If not turgidus, it is one of the very similar target species. Either way, freshwater 20+ gallons and a hunter/lurker type so no tankmates.

Oh I knew it wasn't a Congo..he had gotten this Puff in an was wanting my opinion on what it might be..I was thinking something in the target group but the lines across the head reminded me of a Ceylon. I do not think I'll buy this puffer. I'd really like to get a Congo. I hope I can give the LFS some advice on keeping this guy healthy. They seem to be open to minded enough to try anyway..thanks everyone!

Actually my one Abei looks alot like that sometimes, so I'd go between an Abei and turgidus.
Seriously I could show you pictures of my Abei at times and he looks just like that. That's the problem with the target group, they sometimes look like each other and can be very difficult to identify.
Either way, they are both nice puffers to have, and I love both of mine. :D

I'd say M. Turgdis. Here's a good (or not so good) pictures of mine in the LFS. I wish I could get you to buy him, they are the sweetest vicious fish I've ever owned!And they're usually kind of hard to find....I keep mine on the side of my bed, right by my head, I wake up to him every morning. He sees me roll over and comes darting out of his stump, stares at me, gives me this full body shake and goes back in to hiding.

I may go and look at him tomorrow. The guy is asking a little less than $20 from him..is this a fair price? I have a tank already running (30 gallon) that I think he'd like. I just didn't want to have two BW tanks (in case he was a ceylon).

I think I will get him. I've been doing some research and I have the right accommodations for him. I've been keeping several tanks running with nobody to live in them just in case I found a puff that I wanted. I've watched a couple of videos on them and they seem so intriguing. If there is any advice on them that anyone would like to add I'd appreciate it. If everything works out I'll post some photos tomorrow. Thanks everyone!
