Determining the sex of Dwarf Puffers when they're young is very difficult since most of their secondary sexual characteristics do not show up until they reach adulthood. Most of the Dwarf Puffers sold in stores are juveniles, so picking out how many males and females you're getting can be next to impossible. Most owners won't know until their dwarves are grown. When they are old enough, however, it is easy to tell the males from the females: The males have a dark line that runs down their belly (their bellies have more yellow coloring as well). The vertical line on the males darkens with sexual maturity and during spawning. The males also have lines or "wrinkles" behind their eyes that the females do not have. The C. imitator male is identifiable by a "keel" and "comb" created with the ability to erect their dorsal and ventral ridges. Finally, another way to determine the sex of a Dwarf Puffer is to look at its body shape. The female's body will be much rounder than the male's.

Im gutted i missed out on a awesome deal on a tank

second hand it was - but a fluval venezia 300 ish litre tank - with heater - pump - lights and a fluval 405 filter all for 150 pounds


arrggghhhh - i saw it yesterday up at the lfs - i didnt know how much spare dosh i had - so i phoned them this morning - and asked them if they still had it - they said yes but someones looking at it right now - and to ring back in 20 mins -

rang back - and it was sold - aaarrrhhhhhhh

priced up the filter with them in the shop - that was 100 pounds on its own - aarrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

im sorry.... but hey, check out craigslist.... i dont know much about euros or pounds or leiters.... but in the US, everything tank related is WAAYYY cheaper on craigslist than in any LFS you could possibly find... i got my complete 55 gal for $50, stand and all.... with all the "guts" of the tank also included (heater filter ect.) and i got my other 55 gal (a bit nicer than the other one) for $100 just the glass tank alone would run me over $100, not to mention everyhting else it came with.... its worth a shot, you may find a better deal on craigslist good luck

i dont think they do a craiglist in the uk - they do similar things i think tho - but that tank new here would have been 500-700 pounds

I think you already know about this site: aquarist-classifieds.co.uk -- they have some good deals. I've bought some cheaps tanks through that site. And of course, my old favourite, eBay, always a good one. I could show you tank after tank that I never paid more than £50 for, and all are excellent tanks.

well well - pay day - and i sold a car whooohoooooo - so - off i go around all the lfs's checking out their plants -

found one place where i had a megga deal on plants on rocks and wood - mosses etc - the staff i think were kinda new and were giving my prices off the top of their head - when i knew there was a sign saying the proper prices - had hellova bargain plus a free , what i think is a ghost shrimp - i put him striaght in with the dps - they seem scared of him/her hahaha

soooo plenty more plants - one with a load of little snails - the puffers had to eat them all - when i get a chance ill get some more pics of the new plants - looking better already - going to move the original 6 dps into the big tank this evening - and see how they get on -
