right - the store selling them as yellow puffers reackon the ones they have will grow much larger than the ones i have - and they also are saying they are fine in a community tank ??

i questioned them asking if they were dps and they said nope - and that they knew what dps were -

so im very confused now-

Yours are most definitely dwarf puffers I've never heard a store label them "yellow puffers" though, that is very strange.

You may want to hold off for a few weeks before combining the new puffers with the old, if they are bringing in any diseases or illnesses, you don't want to give that to your healthy ones.

A bunch of females would be very cool, but yes, all young ones look like females so they may change up yet.

they had these in the other shop at the same time i bought my first ones - i was surprised they didnt sell straight away - as the gsps did sell straight away -


however all the dps were in a tank right at the bottom and were well camoflauged - i was glad in a way that no one else bought them

I would just say to keep in mind that most shops don't know what they are talking about, nor what stock they actually have. It's a common misconception that fish stores know all about what they are selling. I think it's the odd one that actually does, as most don't seem to know much, if anything at all. The best thing you can do is to educate yourself, that way you will know, even if they do not.

If you're certain they were identical to your dwarf puffers, chances are they are dwarf puffers.

identical to mine - apart from the odd one or two which have slightly diff colours etc - markings are same tho -- im phoning them tomorrow to see if they can get the latin name to me as they didnt have it there today -

the shop where i got my last 1s actually call them yellow puffers aswell they also told me that the 1s i bought were fully gorwn....even tho my orig 1s are easily 4 times the size of them lol fish shops should learn a bit about any fish before they even think about stocking them man...but thats not gonna happen is it

this was/is my upgrade to the smaller tank - its where the 6 original dps are still - whils the others are in the hoooooge tank -


now this is the hooge tank - dp mansion - like i said its not scaped or anything yet - just substrated and a couple plants a min till i decide how and what to do -

well im not very good at pics lol!! but heres some...have tried 2 get as many different looking patterns etc as i could so u can see how different they can be
this 1st pic is when igotmy 1st ever dps, around may last year i think (excuse the state of the tank lol! god only knows what that is all over the tank :S)

what size in inches would you say they are now as adults?

autophotos, I think your big tank is lovely ... but can I make a friendly suggestion? It would be nicer for your DP's if you got more plants and/or ornaments in there. With that much open space, I would think your DP's are going to hide due to feeling vulnerable. I would make it sort of "jungly" in there, it will make them feel more secure and it will cut down on any aggression, should you have more males than you think you do (females will chase off others too). I think once you fill out that big tank with more plants it will be fantastic. I already think your DP's are pretty lucky for having a nice big living area like that.

how do you tell males from females? i mean i know their pattern is different, but what do the different pattern look like... i always call my DP a he just because... same with my fahaka... i refer to him as he but im not really shure.... anyone know for fahakas too??

BTW, you are an amazing photographer.... how do you get your pictures to come out so clearly??? mine are always really blurry when i take pix of my DP cant get any good ones

One of the easiest ways of telling a male from a female is there's a visible line that goes from under their chin down their belly, but the juvenile ones won't have that. The females also have "wrinkles" behind their eyes.
