Okay, this one may seem obvious but after reading some posts - I have had great luck with finding the theoretical good mix of puffer foods (mysis - store bought, fresh w' shell shrimp, scallops, clams, squid, etc) that I buy from a ethnic/oriental market. Just make sure it has no/minimal preservatives/sulfates. Make your chopped/blended mix in bulk with appropriate supplementation (Zoe/vitamin C, etc) and freeze it in two different ice cube trays. (cheap and really effective) Use a large tray for main feeding and the smaller sized portion tray for snacks. Just drop a frozen cube of goodness in a shot glass with a little purified water (got to love the faucet fixtures) and you are good to go.
I do corporate accounting for part of my job, trust me - this works out best nutrition AND cost wise when you factor in normal LFS pricing for most foods. Granted pellets (say Spectrum) are great, not many puffers eat them straight away. Also the shells of whatever live food you might feed every so often keeps them mentally grounded/healthy in that they can still "be a puffer". Not to mention that any arothron species need a bit of help keeping their teeth worn down longterm.
Just my pair of cents...hope this helps: Lee
