Porcupine Puff Changing Colors...

i have seen pictures of porcupine puffer fish with all different colors

mine is pretty much a reddish brown on top (you can barely make out the spots on it) and white on the bottom

but ive seen them with really light tones and the brown spots on top, how do you get that?


or any other ways to change the color?



i have an actinic and another flourescent light that is a perfect-o-lamp

her diet consists of krill, brine shrimp, and blood worms

They change depending on there mood, and the area where they were caught. Mine goes from the dark like yours to very light to for no particular reason. I personally prefer the darker color.

The foods you are feeding her aren't really beneficial for her. Krill is known to cause lockjaw in puffers, especially porcs. Bloodworms and Brine are devoid of many vitamins and minerals and really aren't going to help her out at all. Also bloodworms and brine are considered fresh water foods. Feeding FW foods to SW fish is known to cause fatty tumors to develop because of a difference in the HUFA production in SW and FW fish.

Try feeding her some clams, shrimp, earthworms, and squid.

ok, cuz i did know that the krill wasnt the best, and he just eats the bloodworm and Brineshrimp i feed my clownfish

but im definitely going to need to invest in some new foods

It's also a good idea to soak her foods in a good liquid vitamin. I use Selcon & Vita-Chem.

i just bought some jumbo shrimp from pathmark, so thats good i guess haha


and ill def look into those vitamins, where would i be able to get those? and whats the difference?

They are 2 different kind of vitamins--Selcon contains fatty acids & such. I get them from DFS. Check into the rebate offer in the sticky in the Gen disc forum.

My puffer does this too...if you scare him he may turn pale...if my lion fish chases him he gets dark. if you turn the light on while you know hes sleeping he will be pale....its basically depends in my puffers case anyway He goes from light brown with dark brown spots to more like an off-white with purple spots.
