Fahaka puff's

Post by bauk »

I've got a question.. Sometimes my fahaka puffs.. I've seen it now 4 times and 3 times it was in the morning, an our later than the lichts goes on. But first christmasday it was in the evening... everything in the house is like normal. Nobody was around the tank, there were no strange lichts or something, there was no hard noise.. only some people in the room watching tv..

She does it verry relaxed.. slowly she sucks some water in her with poses.. very relaxed she's hanging on her cave.. like she is just awake and must stretch herself.. for a sec of 5 she was a living christmasbal in the tank. And then, like she is breathing she puffs the water out.. Also very relaxed..

I think there is no problem with her.. she is very kalm, no stress and nothing around her that can make her scared or something.. But what should be the reasen that she does it? IN an other forum people sad stress, but i am sure that it's not the reason.. Does anybody know more of Fahaka's puffing up? Now i know i'm the only one that will say it in Holland, but i'm very courious of there are other people that has seen the same..

My camera lays on a table near the tank.. i hope the next time i can take a pic!

My personal feeling on this is that it's their way of "stretching". Or possibly strengthening the muscles that inflate them. I dont' think its the cause of anything, just something they either feel they need to do once in a while, or something they must to do once in a while. Either way, no harm in doing I think.

It would be very cool to see a photo of it in it's puffing stage! :D

Hahahaha, because it is so special, and so beautiful to see.. it is over when i realize that i must get my camera :)

I think it's not for attention, than she acts diffrent. I also think it's a kind of stretching :)

Yup, mine sure does not like seeing himself. He will freak out and splash water every where once in awhile.
I have seen mine puff once when the lights were off. Was so excited completely forgot about a camera. Have seen him try a couple of other times but that is it. I think he does it when I am not looking lol. I have heard they will do it more often when young and that it is more of a practice thing.

I've caught everyone of my puffers puffing at one time or another, most of the time when I walk in to a room...They usually get an embarassed look, deflate and go on their way like nothing ever happened, maybe even a little embarassed for being caught in mid puff.

BeeBoo, my MBU, puffed this morning. I looked over and thought he was going to burp, but instead he was taking in water and puffing up. He took in maybe 5 gulps but never got anywhere near the size I know he could if he was to inflate all the way.
I don't think he was doing it for any more reason than to stretch or give those muscles a work out. :)

Paris just puffed at me the other day.. she was hungry and I was ignoring her, and when I turned around she was staring straight at me puffed up full sized! She stayed puffed too, till she saw me turn on the camera, the little brat. Its amazing how quick they can un-puff.

Sometimes they do it for stretching, sometimes for attention, sometimes when you ahve a really neurotic puffer like Paris she just puffs because she ran into one of the fake plants and scared herself *eyeroll*

I'll try to find the picture that's on here somewhere of the gorgeous "Martha" in full puff.. brb..

I think it's kind of sad.. My Fahaka isn't that round than.. The mouth of this fahaka.. it's almoust scary! I think,. maybee that's the difrence between stretching and defending.. maybee... i think.. :D

And every time when Faya is above her cave.. i can't look normal tv anymore ;)

It's sad that a lot of people ( in the netherlands ) think that when a Fahaka puffs that there is something wrong. That there must be soime things that harm the Fahaka.. I've tried for a week to find out what could be the reason that she did it. And i'm so happy with the words of the people above me! Now i realy know that every thing is fine with my Precious.. To bad that the conversations sometimes so difficult are 8)
