watched in horror

Hey all,

I was watching my main tank tonight, when I noticed the smaller of the 3 SAPs was nosing around one of my deco's then I watched in horror as it hovered up with one of my mollies in its mouth.

Now this was a sick fish, I thought it was getting better, i guess he must of died at some point tonight, It was my creamscile molly

I know this is part of life but it is still very sad to me..other then the bit mark the only thing wrong with him was a bad case of ick, the rest of the tank seems to be recovering, but for some reason he wasn't, I am doing a huge WC tomorrow, and adding some more salt.

Even more specifically, even schoolers will not hesitate to eat their schoolmates when the particular individual is seriously ailing and unable to "fit in" or keep up with the group.. It is nature's way. Predators do not like to attack schools - the targets are elusive and hard to capture. The excluded and sick or weak are fair prey for anyone, predator (piscivore - a fish-eater) or not. Cheap protein is cheap protein - even if in tanks it a major transmission path for the spread of infections. In our tanks, and ailing fish should be removed to isolation, not just for that fish, but also for the good of the rest of the tank.

I think the OP means their SAP found and "sucked up" a fish that was already dead.. not that the SAP killed it.

But I could be wrong.. my condolences either way, those mollies are beautiful fish.

Jonah was pretty sick, For some reason he got ick worst then the other fish, I think the SAP found him dead, and thought he would make a good snack
I removed him right away, I also moved the SAPS and the cories into a temp tank till flutter can come pick them up .

The ick in my main tank has cleared up, I am planning on down sizin to two tanks, as I do not have the time to tend to so many tanks. besides the hydro bill is killing me LOL!

Thanks lisa, We miss him, he was so bright, now my two female dal's are very lonely I think one or both are preg, so he might have left his legacy

I have 11 baby gupies in my snail tank upstairs, Their so cute, there about 3 weeks old . It would be cool to have some mollies.

I wish I could have fry of some sort.. the only fish I have doubles of right now are Northern Thailand Datnoids... well triples lol, I don't know if they'd mate or not.. never heard of it anyway.. lol

We have 2 clown loaches as well, but they aren't in the same tank!!
