Can spiney eels and dwarf puffer live in harmoney?
Is it possible for me to keep them together. Without problems like nippiness? I have a 30 gallon so i was thinkin mayb 4-5 dwarf puffers and 1 peacock eel. Any thoughts, i am also not sure if dwarfs need brackish or not...

DP's are definately freshwater, as for spiney eels not too sure what their water parameters are, but I wouldn't go for it, because the eel does get relativly larger then DP's and would eventually consider them to be food!
But if you really want a spiney eel, they are considered peaceful, so you can have it with larger cichlids or something similar. Just nothing too small that the eel will consider it a nice meal

I mite try it... Like i mite do a pictus catfish peacock eel and dwarf puffer. And if it goes well then i mite add 2-3 more puffers i knw 3 females per male. But if the eel has engh hidin spots it shld be ok with the puffer because the nippiness probly wont affect him if hes hiddin alot.

I can almost garuntee that the eel WILL eat the DP if it gets ahold of it. The eel will eat anything it can fit it's mouth around. And the eel full grown could potentially be 30cm.. which is over 10 times the size of a full grown DP.. that's just my 2 cents....

hey fishy12!
as you read through past posts & do some searches on tankmates (there's a ton of material here at The Puffer Forum), you should come to
realize that though it might seem like a great idea to mix puffers & other fish, rarely does it work out, and often becomes a nightmare for all
involved.
pictus cats have long feelers, which puffers that eat little worms may look at as food!
in general, puffers & their keepers do much better with "species only" tanks
puffers are very demanding critters (rewarding, but demanding!
) , and it's best to not complicate matters by experimenting
leave the experiments to the more experienced pufferkeepers, and learn from their experience
most of them have additional tanks & hospital tanks in case an experiment goes badly
unless you do, best not to try it, or you and your fish might wind up like this:
!
and that's what nobody wants
!!
PS: is your tank properly cycled? anything else living in it yet?

Re: Can spiney eels and dwarf puffer live in harmoney?
A dwarf puffer must be in a freshwater tank. And don't have an eel with dwarf puffers because as Lisa said, the eel will eventually eat the poor little puffers.
Actually there's quite a few fish that can live with dwarf puffers. I have kept DP's in my community tank for quite a while, but I wouldn't advise putting any fish in there that will eat small fish, or that's got very long fins. I've got Gouramis, Tetras, and some different catfish in with my dwarf puffers right now, and as I said, the biggest problem is having fish that will eat the DP's. Some stores that sell DP's have some very tiny ones for sale, so you have to keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that DP's do best in tanks with lots of plants, as they like the security of hanging out in a plant -- mosses are good.
