Thinking of getting a Fahaka

But I don't have the room, Wife said I need to get rid of a tank or two, cause they need such a big tank, and so much more attention. :( But what should
I get rid of, I love all my fish.?

Somone talk me out of it?. but don't talk me out of it LOL!

Are they really like a dog?.

My wifes biggest beef with them is the fact that they need such a huge setup for only one fish, Is there anything that can be put in with them?

Help me convince my wife? :)

I would need to find someone to re-home my reds? as well :)

many unfortunate people can only have the fahaka puffer. (I may end up being one of them).
ive ownd all sorts of pets / alot of different fish salt and fresh, but I must say I look forward to coming home to fahaka above all. they really are that awesome :)
from what I gather males are more aggresive / or mine just isnt botherd to eatn her friends yet.

Thanks Guys,

It seems I have convinced my wife to let me have one, I do still need to find a new home for my red eyed Striped ( Anyone have room? )
I also need to save for a bit, And do some research on the best set up, I am prob gonna get a 120 to a 150 Gal, This seems to be the normal size for them.
Room is a major factor for me, I have one spot in my house where he could go, and the tank has to fit.

Any advice or recommandations on filteration, lighting, decos, or anything else you can think of would greatly be appreciated.

I run two aqua clear 110's on my 120 for my fahaka and his tank buddies. They work really nicely. Only problem is my tank is so tall the intakes don't reach as far down as I'd like. A powerhead will clear that up. Woot for christmas! For decor, the more the merrier. My tank is a river biotope so I have driftwood mimicking sunken logs and rounded river rock to finish off the look with some fake plants placed here or there. And for lighting, I'm cheap so I bought a 10 dollar shop light from walmart and rigged it to hang over the tank with some plant hangers and chains. Looks a little funny but it is a heck of a lot cheaper than an actual tank light and unless you need lighting for plants it works fine. Fahakas are awesome pets. He's my favorite fish of the ones I keep.

38 gallon: 1 Figure 8 puffer, 1 Dragon Goby, 1 Knight Goby, 3 Black Mollies

Wow hes awesome, I love the roots.

I had a thought, my daughter has a 56 gal tall tank, with double filtation for her two Oscars, she is planning on upgrading very soon to a bigger tank.
My question is this, how long would my Fahaka be able to live in this setup, Even if it's 6 months, that would give me time to buy the best for him, in pieces?.
I want to get a nice 150+ setup for him/her. I didn't want to have to move him, but I don't know if I can wait another 6 months to get a fahaka :) It's the kid in me LOL!

Depends on the size of the one you can find. They're not that available. Filbert started out at 1".

I have 4, I think I have 1 male and 3 females, To bad, I would love for them to goto someone from off the forum, I would feel better about it.. :(
I wife bought me these, but I want a fahaka more, and she is okay with me re-homing them.

Put another add or bump up the one you had before in the classifieds, that may help....

I guess my LFS said he can order me one, might take a bit to come in, but I am okay with it, allows me time to cycle the tank :) and get things perfect.

It is quite frustrating to have a tank that large for just one fish IMO. I had one but I ended up selling him and now I have several fish in my 100G. Just think long and hard before you get one- they can be rather nasty but they have great personalities. If you honestly have your heart set on it, then go for it. Just remember, no tankmates.

Yeah I can see your point, But I look at a fahaka as a dog, and you normally have one dog for your whole house/apt. :) And I am pretty sure I'll be able to put something with him/her, Many have and are doing okay.
