Amorous dward puffer!!

We have 3 dwarf puffers in an 18G tank, they have been together for about 7 months and apart from a little bit of territory establishing in the early days they have all got on reasonably well. We have 1 male and 2 females ( more by luck as they were very young when we bought them!)
Over the past few days I have noticed that the males stripe has been very very dark and today he is relentlessly pursuing both of the females, he swims very close to them, it almost looks like he is kissing them all over lol. I am pretty sure this is courting behaviour but the problem is that the girls don't seem to like it!!and seem to be getting agitated and trying to hide from him. They have plenty of hiding places ( although he is pretty determined and seems quite good at finding them)so I am not too worried but my son seems to think we should separate them!! I haven't seen any evidence of biting which is my main concern as I have heard that some puffers bite as part of their mating rituals. Is it best to just leave them to get on with it??
I guess romance is in the air anyway lol

Unless damage is being done, I would let it ride. The tank is not small, and if heavily planted the females are fully capable of eluding the male, or making their "no!" emphatic. Puffer courting can appear a bit rough.
