I ended up just ordering an Eheim Classic 2217 off Petsmart's website. I've heard to much good stuff about those to not give it a try. I'll see how it goes once I get it in and setup.

On a side note, I did take someone's advice and try to contact Eheim about it. First I want to a couple of local shops and asked about how to go about contacting Ehaim about the damaged part (the Eheim website has no information on that), but they basically just blew me off because they both refise to deal with the Ecco line... So, I looked up the Eheim NA phone number, and called that. The woman I spoke with said that the warranty people had gone home for the weekend (it was Friday ), and that I would do best to email them. So, I did, and now I'm waiting for a response...

The modified 2217 blades are still spinning nice and silent, so hooray for that. Right now, if my Ecco lasts until my Classic comes in, I'll be happy. I've already decided that the 2217 is my Christmas gift to myself.

2236 update... Called eheim again. They are fedxing 2 replacement propellers at no cost to me. They think that replacing the motor may prevent this from recurring. So, in addition to the free propellers, they will replace the motor at no charge. All this for a filter that has been out of warranty for years! How can you not love this company? I don't care if my ecco never works again, my next filter will definitely be an eheim product.

Hey congrat to you. I haven't heard back on my email yet. Perhaps I'll try calling them again tomorrow...

Update

I got an email back from eheim which said if I could fax or email them a copy of my receipt for my Ecco, they'd send me a replacement blade (if it's in warranty). They also said the ceramic shaft WILL NOT warp on these, and it would only break, if I dropped it or such. So, I guess I didn't get as happy a rep as enonymous did.

Ah well... I'm loving my new 2217, though. It's noticeably quieter than the Ecco (not that the Ecco's very loud).

Another update on this. After replacing the impeller blades, my Ecco lasted until last week, when the motor burned out, and now the impeller is frozen onto the ceramic shaft....

I just got off the phone with Eheim, and they told me I'll have to ship them the pump head (on my own dime), and they'll look at it and decide what do from there... Initially the guy just told me to take it back to Petsmart (where I bought it) and have them repair or replace it for me. When I explained to him that Petsmart doesn't offer that kind of service (at least not around here), he said he'd open a case # for me.

Why can't I ever get the super helpful customer service????
