Definitely, there is. I've seen the orange ones for as low as $40 but I was told after a 4-year hunt, a LFS could get me one for $200! I told him, never mind... Then ordered one online from TX.

Well I suppose getting that red one for £25 was pretty good because most of the common-coloured small ones go for about £20 .... but in the long run, I don't have the red one, and I've still got the orange one, so it doesn't matter what he cost me.
Thinking about it, we did get a great deal on Orangey at £28 for his size. It's just one of those things where I'd love to have a red one, but I don't want to pay anything too outrageous because, as I've experienced, it could die too easily. I still have no idea why that red one died. It wasn't water quality or disease because I had my Abei in the same tank (with a divider of course), and he's been fine since then.
I think the ideal would be to find someone that's got one for sale privately instead of a shop, the only problem with that is most people won't part with their red ones!

My bf and I want a congo super bad, there is no way of finding one in the petstores, and if there was it would probably be an outrageous price. We've been talking to our local supplier, and he won't even be able to bring one in until March! Oh well, extra time to get the tank ready!

Well that's the problem now Lisa, it's out of season for puffer importation. I was talking to a friend of mine about finding some Fang's puffers (that's my next purchase, if I can find one), and he said we were looking at probably June before they would be imported again!! I went through all this last year, I wanted different puffers and everyone said, "wait for summer", and summer came and went and I didn't see anything really good offered anywhere this past summer. But that's how this sort of thing goes, especially when importing live fish, they might try to get them, and they might have a batch of fish that's gotten sick, or died, or whatever. Just a wait and see game, unfortunately.

You might try to find classifieds that are used strictly for aquatics (we have a website like over here it just has tanks, fish, and other items associated with fishkeeping) -- you might find a Congo being offered by a private collector, and most likely will pay a better price than what a store will charge as well. it's worth looking into. Ask around at the LFS's if there is any such classifieds available.

For sure, my bf has a lot of good connections for importing fish. He is also on another forum that has a classified section just like what you're talking about, no such luck so far though! I am content with Kaleeko for the time being. & I'll be sure to let you know if we ever do get our Congo!
