Although i can't say for sure whether or not puffers are the smartest fish, i don't get why you used that video??? its just basically watching dwarf puffers eating snails for almost 4min, which in all honesty i don't see how it shows they are smart?

Re: Are Puffers The smartest fish
I think they're pretty darned smart, but there are other fish, like sharks, that are smarter.
I'm also unsure why you picked that movie... But it's one of my favorites! I always thought it was cute and watched it all the time until I got my DPs. My friends thought they were vicious little brutes, though.

Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Homer sorry I took 3min and 35sec from you, this video targets DP's ability to know how, when and where to attack its pray.Homer wrote:Although i can't say for sure whether or not puffers are the smartest fish, i don't get why you used that video??? its just basically watching dwarf puffers eating snails for almost 4min, which in all honesty i don't see how it shows they are smart?

Re: Are Puffers The smartest fish
ohh..okay then.
Anyways, I think the puffer fish has a lot of competition but a lot of the sea's dominants are not fish then again for example whales, dolphins, octopus (arguably the smartest thing in the sea) along with other cepholopods

See, the thing is, I'm biased. I'm automatically inclined to say that puffers are, by far, the smartest fish regardless of what anyone would've posted

Re: Are Puffers The smartest fish
I'm google gal so I did a little research most are opinion pages
someone said blue ram which is I believe an obvious no. others said carp, no word on pufferfish came up though they may have forgot about them this was the only scientific one
"With the fish, the sharks and rays have the largest brain/body ratios - the manta ray has the largest of them all. In fact the manta ray seems to recognize something "special" about the human - somehow it allows humans to "ride" on it (and in fact it tries to "communicate" an "openness" to being ridden on). I've never heard of that sort of behavior outside of a few mammal species."

It's my favorite puffer video of all time. BRING BACK THE DPs!!!
If we can include non-fish aquatic animals, my vote goes to dolphins. If it's just fish, I'm standing by sharks.

Re: Are Puffers The smartest fish
I always thought that octopus and squid were very intelligent, as I've seen on tv where they set up an "obstacle" course, putting food at the end, so the octopus/squid (can't remember which one it was specifically) would have to go through the course to get to the food, and it always did. I also remember reading a short story on Practical Fishkeeping's site, that at a well-known aquarium some lights kept getting shorted out, and they kept replacing them, then they finally set up CCTV and found out that the octopus was squirting water at the lights, after hours, and shorting them out. So I think that shows intelligence. I'd like to think that puffers are the smartest fish, but if they aren't, I think they are in the top 5!!!

I've always thought that research has shown elephantnose are among the most intelligent fish. Their brain weight to body mass is the same as a dolphin.

Cephalopods definitely. I love them.
As for fish, I don't know. Predators are often smarter but horses are generally smarter than dogs so who knows.

It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.
