Hey everyone,
So since 2 weeks ago when my nitrate and nitrite readings were super high and my GSP's were not doing too well theyve recovered. I've been doing water changes almost every day and just had my water tested, here are the results:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 15-20ppm
Nitrite: 0
ph: 7.4
My question is, the guy at the LFS said my ph should be around 8.2 and to raise this i should put in a dead coral rock, so i bought a small rock and wanted to get your opinions on whether i should put it in or not, thanks.

Re: Water update and PH question
Hi.Not sure I can help but, I have NEVER tested the pH of my water in over 10 years of keeping GSPs, so I would have to wonder just how important a factor in their health it is. The advised pH though is 7 - 8.3

Re: Water update and PH question
Don't worry about pH. Raising it will just lead to swings when you change the water. Swings are bad. Steady, imperfect pH is 100% fine with all but a few fish, and GSPs don't fall into that category.
Is he in brackish water yet? The salt should help buffer it to a higher, more "correct" level. But it really doesn't matter.

"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Have you read the GSP article in our library? It talks about that in there.

Re: Water update and PH question
the salinity of the water is 1.009 i could put this up to 1.010 to bring up the ph but i like the look of the coral rock, but if its better to leave it alone i'll just leave it out.
