It's been a while since I have posted here, because being so busy with school and all.
I just wanted to let everyone know that the hospitalinity worked great for curing the ich "puffy" had. I finally got the salinity raised back up to where it suppose to be a couple of days ago. I raised it very slowly.
I did a water change once a week bringing the salinity up by just .001 each time. And then used premixed salt water to top off evaporation. This also raised the salt level up. By doing it slowly I had no problems at all. The tank didn't go through a cycle or anything, and my puffer is doing probably better than he has since I first had gotten him.
I don't know if you remember me telling you about him not being interested in snails or anything different than his usually krill. We'll I introduced 4 snails two days ago and he attacked 2 of the 4 I put in there.
He hasn't been interested in anything other than krill since I first got him.
This made me realize that he is doing so much better than he was even before the ich. I don't know exactly what brought on the sudden change in "puffy" but I'm so happy he is doing so well and I wanted to thank everyone for their help with the hospitalinity. It is definitely the best solution for ich.

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Congrats! Having a good owner like you is the most important part of any treatment plan though and you've done a great job of seeing puffy through a difficult time.
It's also good to hear that he is now eating snails. You should keep working on adding more diversity to his diet though. Have you tried FW mussels?

Go to the fish dept at your local grocery store & buy 1 of everything (except fish). Freeze & defrost in garlic/vitamen water & see what else he eats. If that doesn't work, try other live foods, like shrimps & crabs. Gotta get some other variety of foods into him. I'm really happy & proud to hear he is doing so well & that you are such a caring pufferowner!

Yea I definitely want to try different types of food to see what he will eat.
I tell you what though back before he ever got ich he got to where he would go for three or four days without eating. I thought he had lock jaw. Which might be what he had. I'm not sure. I started dipping the freeze dried krill in zoe and putting a few drops of vita-chem in there also and he's been eating that ever since and doing great. But like you all said it would be better for him to eat different things. I am going to introduce new things to him to see what happens.
I almost forgot back when puffy wasn't eating good I also started adding iodine to the tank and I'v been adding that ever since. I got that from here about adding the iodine. I don't know if that helped either. All I know is that once I started feeding him the krill dipped in zoe and adding the iodine that he got better.
Also I ordered a 180 gallon tank for puffy five months ago but got ripped off and I'm fighting it right now. It really pisses me off what this guy has done to me. Because of this guy puffy has to wait longer for his new tank. If you have a membership to reefcentral check this thread out.

Wow...that's brilliant news! We were all rooting for you last year with your battle against ich.
I think it's just a case of trying out lots of different foods and being patient...if he doesn't go for it the first time, try a few times on different days and he may decide he likes ... whatever it is.

Thank you for posting the report of your success - so nice to read your report after all the "well, I found the fish dead this morning..." posts.
All of us who have read of your experiences with that thief look forward to a future report from you about some measure of success. Having sued a similar crook in small claims court, I assure you that when you present your case as you did over at reefcentral, you will beat the bad guy. Collecting is another battle after you win - and the lawyer, judge, and court clerk will be more help there.
