Knight Gobies and Figure 8s

I think it depends on the individuals. My dragon goby kept his own, but it was a different f8, too.

Awwww.... poor Knight gobies!

I am very wary of putting any non-puffer fish into my puffer tanks, just because I know how puffers can be, and I've heard many horror stories, as well as seeing for myself what my own puffers can do.

I had an algae eater in with my Abei puffer, and I thought it was going to be okay because Hymie (my Abei) seemed to ignore the algae eater, but then one morning I found the poor algae eater dead with a bite mark on it's belly. And my Fang's killed off a female Endler because he didn't like her. I immediately took the male out before he ended up the same way. I don't mind if my puffers eat other fish, but I don't like things being killed just for the sake of killing.

I am going to be adding some knight gobies to my tank soon, I am pretty confident it will be ok as my F8's leave any fish alone I have put in there even guppy's.

I'm sorry about your Knights. When I got my F8s, I had them in a community tank with knights and some others for about a month. Nothing ever happened but I made myself a nervous wreck anticipating that it would. I like having them in separate tanks; not only is the chance of injury and death reduced, but now the F8s cannot monopolize my attention! My SAP is in a community 55 with 2 upside down cats and 4 danios. It's been a month and things are still good. The Danios are fast and the cats don't show themselves until lights out, but I still check fins twice a day. I'm hoping to get a few more SAPs and then I may move the danios and cats others into a different tank. I guess I'll have to see what happens.

I'd be very surprised omplmpa3 if your SAP (or SAP's, as the case may be) nip any of your fish. I had mine in my community tank and they stayed to themselves, really ignoring all the other fish. As you said, Danios are very fast-moving, so I can't see them falling prey to the SAP, and I've got an Upside-Down catfish myself, and I rarely if ever see it, so I doubt yours would be in any danger, as I think the SAP's would be hunkering down at night when the Upside-Down cat is out and about. I would highly suggest getting more SAP's though, as they really do feel more secure and safe when they are in groups. But I really don't think you will have anything to worry about in regards to aggression from them.

The first day I added the SAP to the 55, he checked out the danios and decided they weren't worth it. But a couple weeks ago, I was working on another tank and decided to bag up its inhabitants and float them in the 55 instead of terrorizing them with my hands; well one of the bags tipped over and a rummynose tetra found itself in the 55. The rummynose barely got a chance to orient itself and the SAP was right behind it. And I was there with the net. My SAP is a little weird though, I'll start a thread about it tomorrow.

You need to get your SAP some friends of his own kind, that may calm him down. They are very skittish puffers and he may be feeling vulnerable for being on his own, and maybe he's asserting himself before any of the other fish have a chance to mess with him. Don't know, but I do think it will be better for him if you get more SAP's.

Thaat's a shame. Sorry about your knight gobies. Were they still juvies? When i got mine he was nearly full grown. I've never had an issue with him and the figure 8. If anything Knight bullies Hikaru more so than the other way around.
