What Can I Do...

Post by bigfatfish »

to brighten my tank? (sorry no pic, cos I can't get to grips with the resizing still! - but I'll keep trying). It is a 55 UK Gallon Bow fronted tank. The background is blue, with pics of plants on it. The decs are bogwood, some rocks, fake plants (alot), moss balls, live seaweed & an air curtain at the back. It is lit with 2 strip lights. Whilst I like the natural look, it always seems dark. Any suggestions for brightening it up, without going too crazy! (that wasn't aimed at your GSPs tank PP - honest ) Oh, & its home to Flash & Luigi - 2 little GSPs, who I quite often loose in amongst the decs!

Well, my tank is really colorful, albeit a bit fake-looking... What about one of those big mangrove roots that Petsmart sells?

Here's 2 of them in a 125g:

That might work - they look quite alot paler than the bogwood. I was also thinking of getting a background that is a paler blue. There is also 3 terracotta pots & a natural gravel substrate.

You could add some light color rock pieces.

There's also submersible LED's that you can get now, that might bring some light down into the tank. I believe they even come in colours, at least I've seen them on eBay like that. :)

Thanks guys. I'm liking all the suggestions so far - & all do-able! Will check out e-bay in a minute, off to the shops tomorrow to look at paler coloured mangrove roots & up to the moor to search for white rocks!

I've seen all kinds on DrsFosterSmith. You could definitely find them somewhere on your side of the swimming pool.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."
