Re: Show Your Tatts!
hahaha!!!! LOL!!!
wow! i don't have any tatts, but i kinda know what i want. being filipino, we have traditional symbols and stuffs and i want to get one with real meaning. being in hawaii i've learned a lot about the origin of tatoos and while i think if you like your tribal tatoos and all, i feel they are meaningless. have you ever seen the samoans and maori? the samoan men had tatoos that were the equivilent to full on shorts. maori tatoos covered the face and much of the body. everything had a cultural meaning and history. so, i love looking at the art, and i think that all tatoos should have a meaning to the person getting it. but i also think that "tribal" tatoos are a bit hokey, no offense intended.

Re: Show Your Tatts!
Ohhhh I get itcyhy feet to have another one reading this thread! I have four small ones (by everyone elses standards anyways!) and they all mean something special to me at that point in time.
I really love Pufferpunk's dragonfly soooo pretty and colourful! Also love Woland's puffer tatties and considered a puff tattoo myself at one point but that would definately be more decorative than meaningful to me
Always wanted a unicorn as well (wanted a real one when younger, still do now! LOL).

Other mods are welcome too, as long as they are PG rated.

First 5 digits of ssn[binary] under the black boxes. Avoiding that identity theft.
XM15-A2 "Claire" recently sold

All designs self-drawn(all text in Exocet font), inked by Dennis Dixon. Right arm done in 2006, and Left arm in 2007. Can't go below the elbow because of work, planning on back/shoulders next, but the fish have been siphoning my money away.

What made you tattoo your SSN on yourself?

Re: Show Your Tatts!
Its a variation on 'meat tags' which are dog tags tatted on your body so they can identify it. I had wanted something in binary since i was 16(im 24 now) so i kinda mixed the two.
im no longer in the us military(out in 05), but i have a few military friends with similar work minus the binary.
Almost forgot, i have a wedding band tat also but no pics of it. A celtic knot type thing.

Re: Show Your Tatts!
Im having a Haida tat done on my right leg (femur) in October. Very excited as the appointment had been made a half year ago and the time is slowly crawling towards the big day.
Haida is the style of the West Coast Indians in Canada btw. My dad was born there when my grandparents emigrated for a few years from Holland to Canada so it has a special meaning for me.
Here's the design. It's a loon and in Haida it stands for peace, tranquility and a giving nature. The Myth goes that the melancholic-sounding bird was said to have delighted in frightening humans on shore or in canoes, as fog rolled in.

My dad had a Haida bear done last week btw! He got excited about the Haida style after i made my appointment. But he went to a different tattoo artist and got one before me.... the cheater hehe....
here's a photo when it was fresh

Re: Show Your Tatts!
Beautiful! Very well done.
I do agree on the tribal thing being stupid.. mine is tribal and really does have no meaning to me other than the fact that my friend was going through a really hard time in her life (husband had been cheating on her with an 18 year old co-worker, everyone at work knew, and worse yet, he knocked her up). She asked me to go with her to get the tattoos, something she'd always wanted, and it was the only design that I really liked. So the design itself has little meaning to me, but the thought behind getting the tattoo does.
I've always dreamed of getting a full coverage, back tattoo of a phoenix rising from the flames.. but after this tribal on my lower back, I realized that if I can't see it, I can't enjoy it.
I'm sure I will get more at some point, they don't hurt (obnoxious tickle is more like it), but it will be something smaller, special and where I can easily see it. The guy who did my tribal said he can do my horses if I'd like, he's done that many times for people and showed me pictures, he is good. But I don't think I'd want that. I may get one of the Pink Ribbon image from our Breast Cancer Ride though!

Re: Show Your Tatts!
I keep telling folks that, when they pick their back for their 1st tatt. I've got plenty of others, so the few that are behind me I do get to appreciate, just less often.I realized that if I can't see it, I can't enjoy it.

Re: Show Your Tatts!
I'm thinking of getting a tatt of 8Ball. I called a local shop and they said they'd need whatever pix I can bring of him plus maybe some general pix of that kind of puffer. I'd like to see if they can replicate his exact design as it was very cool - they looked like smilie faces!- and I do have those close ups of him after he died. I've never gotten one but this is the first puff that I've felt like I wanted to keep his memory. He was such a personality. I'm not sure where I'd put it- my forehead?
I was thinking maybe the top of my foot. Something that I can show off if i want and cover up if the need arises. I'm enjoying watching my brand-new puff, Escalator explore his new diggs. (And yes, my daughter named him after Elavator!)
