You Know its Real When...
You go to the LFS for salt and see the same Fahaka you have for several weeks.... your eyes meet, something is said without being said between you.... He's even out of his sandy cover for the first time in ages... and they call it, Fahaka love!
I wish I had a tank for him!

Re: You Know its Real When...
Awwwww... I know what you mean though. Before I got BeeBoo, my MBU, I used to go and gaze at the MBU that was at this LFS near me. The poor thing always looked like he needed more attention than he got. For months he was there in that tank and I'd always be wishing I could buy him. At the time, the amount they were asking for him just seemed too much, and we didn't have the tank space back then, but it didn't stop me from going and gazing at him over and over. Well finally, we had moved some of my puffers around, and I saved up some money and we decided that we were going to get a MBU, so I phoned up the LFS and asked if they still had him, but they hadn't, they had sold him on. I was heart-broken. I so much wanted to "save" him because they just didn't know how to keep him, I heard the man that took care of the fish saying to someone else about feeding him flake food! That really made me feel horrible.
Eventually I got my BeeBoo and I'm happy as can be. But I can certainly understand how you're feeling when you go and see the same puffer over and over and you day-dream about taking them home and giving them the love they so rightly deserve.

Re: You Know its Real When...
Hate to say I know how this feels, I've been wanting a Fahaka or a Porky for a while now. I went into Big Al's up in Hamilton, Ontario and they have this gorgeous 12-14'' Porky. I was in awe, I went straight to one of the guys working there and asked how much. He told me $150...for me totally worth it no question! Then, he informed me they weren't selling him cause no one wanted him in the past couple months...to me that doesn't make to much sense, I'm here ready to pay but you wont sell him now...
Then today, I walked into my LFS and I see 2 of my favorite fish. Fahaka easily 10-12'' and 2 12'' Florida Gars, Gars are $75 each so I'm thinking maybe I'll pick one up. But then I saw the Fahaka and was like yep that boy is gona be in my tank! No price tag...strange...but he is new so maybe they just didn't print one up yet...so I ask and its a "Striped Puffer" Common name, fair enough, price tag $400...um
I'll just back away from the tank slowly...
THIS SUCKS
What to do now???

Hey, us 3 are from the same area

Re: You Know its Real When...
About craigslist, I cant find any live fish. I would type in puffer fish, nothing then I would type live fish or fish and still nothing.
