Tank lid / hood repair?

Post by Dsmdan95 »

Hi my tanks feeding lid is broke, the tabs that the lid pivots on are gone. I tried thin metal wire in the past and that worked til it rusted and broke. Probably wasn't a good idea to use that anyway. Then I tried 15 lb fishing line and that worked until it broke or either came undone (none got in the tank) Any suggestions?Ii would show photos but I think most a hoods / lids are the same. It's a 20G All Glass Aquarium lid (The brand).
Two great things come in brown paper bags fish and beer! ;)

Buy a new one from Dr Foster. All glass hoods are cheap.

It can be hard to find, and can be expensive. But it is possible to find stainless steel wire. depending how mechanically inclined you are you could get stainless steel bolts and hinges. another option that would not be as good but still work would be to drill holes in the hood and lid and use black zip/cable ties to hold them together and function as a hinge.

I'll have to try the stainless steal idea. I already have holes drilled but, there too small for most zip ties. Thanks' For the tips!

if you can find a saltwater steal leader used for fishing that might work (if it's long enough) that's why I say sw because most freshwater fish don't get too big and the leaders are usually smaller. The leaders usually wont rust since they are made to be in and out of the water alot.
